2011 has been an exciting year in vapeland. Both the technology and the community have moved onto a new level. Here are a few of my highlights;
Technology
I'm not a big enthusiast in this area as I just need something to work and I found that in 2010 with the eGo battery. However, I have bought a number of new products this year;
Mikropipe - These are fantastic, especially the auto battery version. I have two and it is great to have epipes that look good, work well and are affordable on a small budget. These work particularly well with the old 510 MEGA atty and dripping. Mike is onto a winner here as it will suit many existing pipe smokers out there and at the price he is charging, they are a good incentive to switch from tobacco.
SD Keyring (The Whizzle) - This is the perfect device for using at work, when driving or when out in the pub. The design is unique and the power of the battery and the price-point make them ideal for a new user. The auto switch works a treat and it is comfortable to hold in the mouth. Great thinking behind the design has hopefully made this into another winner for Trog and Matt.
Lavatube - A wonderful budget 18650 device, with the bonus that it has variable voltage for the fussy people out there. I wouldn't recommend it to a smoker but every established vaper should have one, even if there are 'better' devices out there.
Neatcigs - A new division of UK-eliquid and ecigwizard. Small black rechargeable ecig to be sold at £10 or below. The battery and carto pack a punch although as with other cig-a-likes, the battery does not last very long. The plus points are that it is lighter than many of its counterparts and the battery charges up in an hour (as opposed to 3 for many of the others out there). I wish Ben, Aaron and company all the best with this venture aimed at the smoker.
Community
This has been a great year in many ways. Anyone who knows me, will know that this is where I put most of my energy and I'm so pleased to see that others have done the same. Here are just a few of the sucesses of 2011;
Continuing Forum Growth - It is great to see the online forum communities growing significantly. UKV has got over 3000 members now and AAE-C and ECR are also going from strength to strength.
VapeFest 2011 - An incredible achievement! Wayne and the ECR crew took over this year's organisation and the turnout was astounding. Over 300 vapers gathered together at The Moat House, Tamworth on the 22nd October and a fantastic time was had by all.
VTTV - Since February, we have had our own internet TV station covering all aspects of vaping. It has progressed from a few talking heads into a full blown media extravaganza with state of the art sets, videos, phone-ins and audience participation. It now broadcasts 5 days a week with live shows but streaming allows us to watch previous shows 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It is becoming an invaluable resource. Big thanks to Hifi, Cat, Sav, DaveK, Andy Sutton, Jez, Rawveg, Jim and Andy, Mighty Mouse and Keith - long may it continue and prosper.
ECCA - Our own Consumer Association was born earlier this year and formally constitutionalised at VapeFest. I wish it all the best and I hope more and more people with skills to offer, get involved.
UKV Chat and RY4Radio - Another great initiative, this time by Andy (OU) and Tony2Stix. Our own radio station on for 2 days a week where Tony plays the music we request from Chat and allows us to ask 'special guests' questions about the vaping world.
ECR Community Chat and Google Hangouts - These are both video chat facilities. Scott's ECR Community Chat was a late night hang-out for myself this year and there are a great bunch of people in there. Lee (Bizzy) has also set up a Google Hangout along similar lines - I hope they both grow from stength to strength in 2012.
CAM-VIP - The Campaign for Vaping in Pubs is gathering momentum with support from our community including a number of 'like-minded' vendors. 'Stay Inside' VIP Nights have been successfully arranged in Barnsley, Hull and Norwich where smokers are given an ecig and encouraged to stay inside for the night - more are to come in February 2012 and beyond. More initiatives are in the pipeline like 'Vape Crawls' and a range of CAM-VIP 'vapours 'n' ale' eliquids (produced by Dekang for vapourworld).
There are many more great products on the market and many more community inspired initiatives out there and soon to be out there. It makes me proud to be a member of such a great community
Happy New Year everyone - let's make 2012 an even better one than 2011!!!
