This article is about "Mini" or 901/4075 atomisers and cartridges. Although there are numerous clones, there are two main types: The "901" - made by Sailebo, and the "4075" made by First Union.
They can be easily identified by the battery ends of the atomisers:

On the left is a 901 atty - stamped with "SLB" (and with a black "grommet") and on the right a 4075 - stamped with "N" and a number.
NOTE: Very early 4075 atties were unmarked - thanks to Keef for pointing this out - here is a Feb 2009 TECC 4075:

The atomisers are the same external dimensions:

(On the left a TW 4075 atty, and on the right a LF LR901) Note the difference in the thickness of the "whistle tips" on the carts.
The carts are very different:

On the left is a "one-piece" 4075 cart (from LF), in the centre a 901cart from LF, and on the right an old "two-piece" 4075 cart from e-cigs.co.uk. Note how much shorter the 901 cart is....
The carts are different at the ends too:

The 901 on the left has a single flat side to the cart insert and the 4075 on the right two curved indentations. The mouth-end on the 901 has a slot, and the thicker 4075 a small hole:

Both types of atomisers have changed over the years (if people have dead attys which differ from the ones below and care to send them to me, I'll update the article to show them).
Here is a very early (Feb 2009) 4075:

Here is a more recent version of the 4075:

(This one is TW, I have similar ones from e-cigs.co.uk)
Here is another (also from TW) 4075:

Lastly, here is a Low Res 901 (from LF):

Performance wise, the original 901 attys were fairly "gentle" (but gave good flavour) whereas the 4075 has always burned hotter than these and gave both good flavour and hit. More recent 901s have been rated as similar to the 4075 in performance. Low res 901s give much more hit than either the 4075 or stock 901 but do diminish/change the flavour to some extent (but not as much as other types of low res atties)
