The wonderful Jemima (AAE-C ECCA Rep) has been in touch with both Mecca bingo and the Gala group. Bingo is another social activity that has been hit by the smoking ban, so she took it upon herself to check their attitude towards vaping.

I'm pleased to announce that both Mecca and Gala allow vaping on their premises :)

Well done Jem :D

My wife has been stealth vaping at the Mecca... I wonder if they will be visibly promoting/announcing this as it could be a gold mine for them. There is always 20+ peeps smoking outside at every break. If they had a eCig kiosk or vending machine they could really reap the benefit.

My sister in law and her friend both vape at their local Mecca bingo hall quite openly and have never been asked not to.

I was told by the manager at the stockton mecca that it was a nationwide policy. He contacted head office to confirm this.

The same with the Gala group of bingo/casino halls

the avatar gave it away stuck with buzz a few years

been vaping since march have not posted much coz ive been to busy learning about all things e-cig can be a expensive hobby if you go up the e-cig ladder the slow way.
started with a £30 starter kit then went straight to a £150 kit cutting out al the £50-£100 kits inbetween

ps

with that avatar i think you need to get yourself a Buzz Pro

Hi guys. I am new to the site, but was I interested to see what you were saying regarding vaping in Mecca and Gala bingo halls. I am a fellow vaper who has ended up working for 10 Motives as a vending agent, and I have recently approached both Mecca and Gala with a proposal for them to install our vending machines. I doubt I will get an update before the New Year, as it is so close to Xmas etc, but hopefully they will give it serious consideration, as it should offer their customers a better experience and generate some much needed revenue for the bingo halls themselves. It is heart warming to see that i am not alone in thinking this would be a good thing for the bingo industry, so if anyone has any useful first hand experience or advice on this matter, it would be gratefully received. Likewise, I will keep you guys posted on any developments from my end. Thanks! Ben John

Thanks ChrissyBoy. You're right - a big issue with vaping in public seems to be that people are just not used to seeing it. I know that a couple of the bingo chains tried introducing e-cigs a couple of years ago, but they didn't sell well. however, That was back when you had to purchase a 'starter pack' at £25 etc, which is very expensive for an average night out. Hopefully our product, priced at £6 from the machine, wth no 'bits to screw together' etc should be a bit more user friendly. I think all these things have been factors in the slow uptake of vaping in these places. I get the feeling that there will be a 'tipping point' when the general public will relax about e-cigs being used in public places - the benefits to peoples' health could be huge if more people switched over, not to mention the savings to the national health system!

I've been to the bingo 3 times this week, and I'm headign there again tomoro. I def don't do stealthy in my local clubs and noone says a thing, infact a few people have come to ask me about them during the breaks.

My local Mecca club often has people from relevent organisations holding little informative chats in the coffee areas during breaks, ie age concern on winter warm, few months ago there was a lady from the open university offering small learn to use the internet classes. Maybe organiseing somethign like that with the local club so people can have a go and see that its not scarey might be worth looking at.

Thanks Jemima, that's an excellent idea. I should be hearing from Mecca in the first or second week of January, and if they give the vending machines the 'green light' I think it would be important to coordinate it with an awareness campaign like you're suggesting. I think that educating people as to the tremendous advantages of these e-cigs; that they taste very close to a normal cigarette (unlike the slighly 'perfume-y' ones of old), and that they are now much more affordable at only £6 a pop from the machine (much less of a 'gamble' for the fist-time user)...all this would be a huge leap forward for vaping generally. If Mecca and Gala could recognise the demand here, we're sufficiently big to move very quickly from our end, so it's very useful to have these ideas/feedback from you guys - thanks again! Ben
