Dear all
Most, if not all, are obviously not reading the notice at the top of this forum which says -
When submitting a review, please include a disclaimer that states whether or not you received the product free of charge or if you bought and paid for the product in the usual manner.
If you've submitted a review and haven't included the applicable disclaimer in your post, please go and edit your post to include it ASAP.
I'll be going through and double checking all threads at the end of next week, and contacting those who haven't given the disclaimer. If I don't hear back within a reasonable timeframe (a week or two) then those reviews will be archived in a hidden forum.
Apologies if that sounds harsh, but it is a policy that's been stated from when the forum opened. It's there to ensure any potential bias is obvious to the reader / viewer, which is to many an important factor in a review.
Thanks for your understanding. :)
A friendly reminder

Giving this a quick bump - I notice new reviews going up that still are not including the disclaimer! Don't make me get the tickle stick out people!
I'll be going through and checking the threads on Friday (this includes juice reviews by the way)...

It'd be helpful Glenn, that way I don't have to watch every video to check. :)

This applies only to video reviews, then?
What about write-ups?

It applies to all reviews, text or video.
If it's a review, it needs a disclaimer. Doesn't matter what you're reviewing or how you're reviewing it.

Not wanting to be a pain here but... how do you recognise if any potential bias is obvious to the reader/viewer?
For instance, why someone would give a biased review on equipment received free to test in opposition to something one has bought and vice-versa?
Thanks

Well, some might say, for instance, that a product gained freely gives an incentive to give a good review, or that the reviewer may feel obligated not to say anything bad about the product. I'm not saying that's my personal viewpoint, but it has been said, and could apply.
I just think having a disclaimer is best practice in the interests of honesty. To be clear, I'm in no way saying that somebody reviewing a free product is biased by default, but I do believe people should be able to judge for themselves.

I agree the diclaimer is a fair thing indeed.
Just was interesting on justification for the bias :)
Thx.

Have to say that, in my experience, reviewers are more likely to give an unwarranted favourable review to something they've paid for than something they've been sent for review. Something to do with pride and not being seen to have bought a pup.

.. and reviewers don't tend to review stuff they think is cr@p anyway...

A good one would, Toby. A review is - or should be - a service to the buying public. If something is seriously bad, the public deserves to know. Naturally, a single instance of bad product should always be checked by having another sent for comparison, in case of a rogue unit.
