Santa Claus was kind enough to bring me a nice new Dremel this Christmas, so with a belly full of turkey and mince pies I set about polishing my black chrome Provari. It'd accumulated a few heavy scratches due to being placed in a pocket with my house keys one drunken Saturday night, so I had nothing to loose.

It took about half hour in total to do. The first stage was using some 800 grit sand paper to remove the paint. After that I used some course polishing compound with a felt wheel to get this finish.



I was quite pleased with how it'd come out but I wanted a true mirror finish to match the SS GGTS so I ordered some finishing compound which arrived today. Here is the final result:







I've gotta say, I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. I don't know why Provape don't offer a polished SS version when it looks this good.

That's the best looking provari i've seen so far,i've been thinking of stripping the paint off mine,but didn't fancy doing it. Excellent TheStalker !

The media blast is actually the final step finish before polishing/painting/chroming so should be easier as you've no other layer to remove first, not gonna be easy getting into these grooves though I wouldn't imagine. Cotton buds?

That really does look good think i may give my satin finish ago so if mine will come up that shiny lol

I like these carbon fibre sleeves but only 4 or 5 were ever made & they sold in minutes.

Yeah the satin one should be easier. I saw a thread on ECF where someone had polished their satin Provari. That's where I had the idea from.

To get in the grooves, I wrapped the sand paper around a thin price of wood, and to polish afterwards, I used a pointy felt wheel.

Looks really good like that! Good job. Wonder how long before we start seeing them sold that way. Did somebody say special edition?

I am so tempted to do this myself, have been umming and ahhing about it for a while myself. My xmas Dremel is sat there wanting something to cut/grind/polish so this may be a way for it to be useful lol

Edit: The initial compound was it the red stuff you get with the dremel kit? also where did you get the final polish compound? did you use the dremel with the felt wheels for the final polish?

The red compound that comes with the Dremel is for soft metals like alu and brass.

The stuff for stainless steel is black (first stage) and pink (finishing stage). This is where I got mine from Harle: http://bit.ly/xg5QGE

I used the supplied felt wheels to apply and I bought some pointy ones to get in the grooves but if you're careful, you could get away with tilting the round ones and use the edge to polish it.

I did give both ends a good polishing too. The pics don't show it due to lighting and a crappy iPhone camera but they've both come up as shiny as the body.
