E-cigs are not "quit smoking" devices - they are an alternative way to smoke, but with a much reduced risk profile. Believe this - it's true. E-cig users are NOT quitters.

Just watching Garry making a box mod on VTTV now.

Very informative, but a safety nightmare. Having your fingers so close to a high speed, unguarded cutting disc, on a machine that isn't fixed to the bench, and drilling holes in the box while holding it in your hands is very dangerous.

I'm not a health and safety nut, many of the rules are stupid, but the 2 I've highlighted are very dangerous.

Fair enough, do what you want in the privacy of your own home. Common sense should tell you to be careful and not really do it this way, but the problem is not all people are blessed with a lot of common sense, especially when it comes to manual / technical jobs like this.

Wouldn't like to see VTTV and Garry being sued when people start loosing fingers.

I have posted on the VTTV forum a safety section to run alongside the show for those interested.
http://forum.vapourt....php?f=13&t=136

TBH that’s the way I work and always have done.
You must understand I make hundreds of boxes this way and know and understand the materials and tools I’m working with. So the risk for me is limited and one I am personally happy to take.

Anyone attempting to make a mod takes the risk upon themselves for health and safety.
As the programme is not a definitive how to, with steps that must be followed.
It is broadcast a fly on the wall.

Sorry, didn't realise you had a forum over there.

I'm not trying to troll, just trying to help, But, whatever you want to call it, you are showing people how to make a box mod. Having your fingers so close to a high speed speed blade and drilling objects while holding them in your hand is dangerous practice.

Whatever you do in the privacy of your home is fine, but when showing someone how to do it on VTTV, I think you should show them using safe practices.

In this day and age, when you have muggers sueing victims trying to defend themselves, I don't think anyone is safe.

Matt.

What's happened to the world when people need to be explicitly told that sharp spinning things shouldn't be inserted into the body? There are safety instructions with all power tools (along with the warnings in the video, which should be sufficient) and if people don't read them or have common sense, personally, I say they deserve what they get. Making mistakes is the best way to learn and all the hand holding means people are protected from the consequences of stupid decisions, which means they never learn the value of thinking before doing. That's sad, and if it takes a few gouged out eyeballs and twisted off fingers to preserve common sense then in what way is that not worth it? Provided a few warnings are included, I don't think anyone could make a case to sue based on following a video precisely and messing it up due to their own incompetence. At no point is Garry saying "do it this way" when playing with power tools and the only people who might conceivably believe he is would be if they were deaf, which is easily fixed by some text saying be careful with sharp objects.
There actually is also a danger to the presenter if they are forced to alter the way they work in order to "be safe" too, and having to also work upside down and in a confined space due to the camera, as well as it being broadcast live, makes that danger even greater. If you aren't relaxed enough to be comfortable then you're likely to make mistakes and accidentally press too hard, get the shakes, slip, or throw yourself into a wood chipper due to the extra stress of having to worry about the potential consequences of the actions of some idiot trying to mimic you.

Opinions on safety aside, it's a good show and I'll certainly be watching it in the future. I'd love to see a bit on battery charge indicators, both adapting commercial ones and ways to make your own. My subconscious is trying to work out how to make a calibrated LED one (full to none) rather than just relying on voltage readouts.

I think most people know that sharp spinning things should't be inserted into the body, it's about trying to stop sherp spinning things entering the body by accident.

I disagree, whilst one can learn from their mistakes, i think the best way is educating people how to avoid them in the first place.

He also isn't saying don't do it this way, do it the safe way.

Exactly why, if he's working upside down, cack handed etc, he should employ safe working practices, vices, clamps, hand vices etc. so if he should slip, the clamp or vice would get damaged and not his fingers.

How many people do you think have claimed compensation from there employers etc by saying 'this is the way i was shown to do it'....'no, i wasn't shown the safe way to do it'....

Forget about the sueing side of things then, just show people how to be safe and avoid injury, we don't want to see pictures lke this too often.
