Hi guys,

Well I have been vaping for just over a month now and loving it. Initially I started off with the PG juices, but often found it really drying on my throat and also quite harsh at times. I was always a Silk Cut smoker before, so I was used to mellow ciggies, nothing too strong. Recently I have moved to the VG juices as I found them alot kinder on my throat..

Now I have been unlucky so far this year when I caught the head cold from hell, in the first days of January, anyway I got rid of that, only to now have laryngitis and have completely lost my voice. This is my 3rd silent day now!!

A few of my mates have asked me if I thought the vaping may have caused this and it did make me think? I have only had laryngitis once before in my life, so could it be the vaping or is it just coincidence? It is hurting a little to vape right now, so to be honest I am not really inhaling at the moment.

Has anyone else has problems like this?

Well, I think its probably coincidence Wilcat. My grandson has it at the mo and he has not reached the naughty age of smoking or vaping yet.

I could be completely wrong of course as I am no expert. :cigarette:

PG is drying on the throat and some would drink more water to compensate but as you are using VG now this should not present the same problem.

coincidence. I get laryngitis now and then (I used to get it a lot) but only had it once in the last 10 months of vaping - and that was from a virus at Christmas (lost my voice too) - I blame the cramped trains - germ tubes urgh...

PG is actually good for your throat and lungs, surprisingly it stops bacteria! bonus :)

Wow really Maff, I didn't know that, maybe I should get back on the PG.. actually not at the moment as it would probably kill me haha
I hoped it was just a nasty virus that someone gave me,I didn't want it to be my newest bestest hobby !! :)

Yes that might be the way to go, but I am on a spending ban now .. no more liquids for at least a fortnight haha... However, if it was for medicinal reasons maybe I could get away with it ;)

Wish someone had told my body that...mine was a stonker :skeptical: .

Wildcat, I also lost my voice completely (from coughing so hard I nearly made myself sick) and I still haven't got it back fully after a month. It was a really dry, tickly cough and I upped the VG which helped a little but, although I had exactly the same thing back when I was a smoker, I do think the drying effect of vaping has prolonged it.

I seemed to have stopped most of the coughing over the past week but I got my replacement Lavatube today and started coughing immediately  . I'm now down to a piddling 4.1 Volts  .

Don't be too quick to blame vaping for the sore throats; the virus from hell is rife in our area and affects upper respiratory tract - earses, noses and throatses!! Lots of peeps taken to their beds with it; plenty of VG menthol and you'll be right.

It's sort of comforting to know there are others suffering too ^_^ . I've felt like malingerer really...never felt quite so rough with just a cold. The previous Christmas I had the flu...in bed a couple of days, achy, tired then fine within a week. This cold has been awful in comparison. Still dehydrated, runny nose and round two of cold sores...what a flippin' wreck  .

This is def not the common cold - my niece never catches anything, but this one almost laid her out. Back on echinacea in massive doses and the ditto cream for all the cold sores, mouth and ear blisters. She's the one still on the filthy fags so for sure it isn't down to vaping. I reckon 2 litres of water a day is a must - how d'ya think I've lasted so long - plus a few fingers of scotch of course.

I'm pleased to report my voice is back now, so I am making up for lost time.chat chat chat haha. However my nose has started streaming again. I swear I am having the worst January illness wise ever. Thing is I work in an air-conditioned office so none of us stand a chance.. the bugs get sucked up into the air conditioning and then blown out somewhere else !!
One of my mates did say it could be the fact that I have given up the ciggies..!! oh well we will see.. anyway at least I can vape properly once more :)

I just recovered from the worst illness I've had since I was a babby; tonsillitis and constantly migrating flu on top. While I couldn't vape (because I could hardly breathe) for the better part of a week, since that went away I've had a nasty cough and got back to vaping, this time with 90% VG liquid. The VG has helped my throat immensely over week 2 of the flu, probably for the same reason glycerine makes for good cough syrup. From now on I shall keep a permanent supply of high VG mentholated liquid and and clearos for the next bout of flu or other cough.

I can't say I've been more or less ill on average during vaping, but it definitely seems a more direct way of getting moisture to the throat than cough syrups and other things that just end up in the gullet instead.

A little anecdote...

It's been well-known for quite some time among musicians that smoke machines on stage can cause no end of hassles for singers.
It happened to me once, on a gig in Hong Kong. I was stuck right next the the smoke machine - and halfways through the first set my voice gave out.
Couldn't have happened at a worse time, we were part-way though Time Warp, with yours truly doing the lead vocals. I was fine...right up to "Like you're under sedatiiiiooooon". I never made the last word.
Lost my voice completely - couldn't make a sound.
Scared the willies out of me at the time, and took a whole day before it came back.

That said, I've been told subsequently (by lighting/effects crew who've had to listen to me moaning about their smoke machines) that it's down to the mix used, and the quantity.
Since starting vaping three weeks ago I've noticed a little huskiness to my voice (which is kinda cool) and bit of a runny nose...but at this stage I could easily put this down to packing up smoking and/or the early stages of a cold.
I'll do some singing next week...

Cheers,

Steve

I could talk through smoke but not vapour. In the dawn of stopping smoking you have all kinds of funny things happen. I hope whatever you do you get better and stick with the vaping if you can. A good dose of vitamin d is a real boost for the immune system. For what it's worth two of the most healthy people I know have had similar lost voices and small ulcers in the throat of late so you are not alone. neither were ever smokers or vapers. I vape on and touch my wooden head have been fine all year. Vape on brothers and sisters for tomorrow is another day.

Times in the past I've tried giving up the weed, I've had all sorts of pseudo illnesses, but I think it's that naughty brain trying to twist things around to getting it's nicotine back. Plus, some are a little touchy in the beginning to PG, and similar with myself. But it only took a week of vaping for that to go. Oh, and I drink gallons of tea too, so I think that helps.
