Why is it that the simple cart/SR atty combo gives out great vapour and flavour?
The simple answer is it's as "basic" as you can get, and there's nothing in the way...
(saying that, you said cart; did you mean drip tip?)

Why does using a clearo/carto give your throat a hit like you've been mugged by a demented mule wearing steel toecapped hooves on higher voltages?
What was at higher voltage, the carto or the mule? ;)

Do all clearo's/carto's give the same hit/kick, if so, why?
No, not at all...
You seem to be basing your question on use of a low res CE4 which does have quite a hefty kick to it,

more than any other clearo I've used...
I recommend to turn CE4s down, no more than about 3.4v (which you found out the hard way!)

Do all tobacco based, flavoured e-liquids have that same bitterness and burnt taste when used at higher voltages?
All liquids will taste bad, if turned up too high.

Am I just being a whimp who should stop asking stupid questions, get on with life and to stop complaining?
That's what the forum is for, asking questions and whingeing! B)

IMO, the simple combo is well matched to the 'simple' batteries. VV batteries 'should' be able to give you differing amounts of vapour / TH depending on what voltage you've got them set to.

Why does using a clearo/carto give your throat a hit like you've been mugged by a demented mule wearing steel toecapped hooves on higher voltages
I'm only guessing here, but applying more voltage will heat the e-liquid faster (and more) so will evaporate more of the PG/VG so leaving Nic in a greater concentration to hit the back of your throat.

Do all clearo's/carto's give the same hit/kick, if so, why?
Definitely not. The hit/kick delivered will be dependant on many factors (to my mind); how well the carto wicks, how fast the coil heats up, which in turn is dependant on the voltage applied and the resistance of the coil.

Do all tobacco based, flavoured e-liquids have that same bitterness and burnt taste when used at higher voltages?
I've not played with higher voltages yet, but I'd imagine all liquids will taste different at higher voltages.

Am I just being a whimp who should stop asking stupid questions, get on with life and to stop complaining?

Forums exist for asking questions, if it comes across as whingeing then so be it. The best bit about forums is that you're quite likely to find someone who has come across the same situation and may even know the exact answer - thus saving you a small fortune in experimentation.

I think in the early days of vaping, as we are having only done it for a few months, it's very difficult to settle on a specific nic level.
I started with 18mg (ish) which wasn't quite enough, then moved to 24mg. After a month on 24mg I'm now finding that's way too high and giving me slight headaches. I'm convinced that as my body clears all the shite out, from years of analogues, it needs differing levels to keep it happy. At the moment, I'm vaping around 16mg during the day and then even lower than that in the evenings.
It's the same with flavours. At first I was very happy with the 10motives tobacco flavour, now though after my morning vape I find it too rough. I've got a few flavour that I think are rank at the moment, but I'm not going to chuck them because as my taste buds change (or rather re-appear) what I like will also change. I used to detest smoking menthol cigs, but love vaping menthol.

Thanks Toby and JLawrence, more info for me to digest.

Just a quick update, I've just started using normal 2ohm carto's I got from LF, at 3.3 volt on the LT is great for me, lots of flavour and vapour without the nasties. I've also just tried dripping, now thats heaven even at 4.0 volts.
