From the responses in here it seems like I got lucky with the side effects from smoking (none of the extreme shortness of breath, coughing up tar, aches, etc), so I'm not really able to ascertain what effect the vaping has had on my health one way or another. I've always been full of mucus and that's not changed, always had aching joints and that's not changed (both present before taking up the cigs), but at least the smell and yellowing is gone and my poor computer is no longer being exposed to that dangerous second hand smoke. I swear, if the anti-smoking people had only gone with "second hand smoke kills computers" I'd have taken what they say more seriously.

Finally read this from 1st to last - so glad I wasn't on UKV when I gave up the cancer sticks and took healthy option. Had itchy legs which drove me mad but this was down to ACE inhibitor for raised BP and stopped when I was taken off them. Sticky throat - yes but I can live with it. Colds - 2 in 2 years, a record, and no chest infection followed; that was always a given in my case. Convinced there's a big psychosomatic connection for a lot of us. Benefits have outweighed any drawbacks massively so I'll go on dragging in my PG/VG and all the great new flavours until someone proves that smoking is healthier than vaping.
P.S. Get a perfumed loo block - great for those with a wee-smelling fetish!!!

Hi
Suffered with a few joint pains in the first month and a few chest issues (feeling odd rather than pain) but these passes quite quickly and from what I have read are associated with giving up smoking. I noted you are approaching 70, so I am guessing that you maybe taking other medication there are some common ones that can cause muscle and joint pain e.g. cholesterol lowering drugs. Tabacco smoking effects the absorbtion/distribution and excretion of many drugs so doses that were fine when you smoked may now be either too high or too low.
It would be worth checking patient information available NRT below is a info on patches, but bottom line if these side effects are still persisting 6 months after switching go and see your doctor !

Side effects
Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Just because a side effect is stated here does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect.
Very common (affect more than 1 in 10 people)
For more information about any other possible risks associated with this medicine, please read the information provided with the medicine or consult your doctor or pharmacist.
How can this medicine affect other medicines?
Nicotine replacement itself does not affect other medicines. However, the components of tobacco smoke can cause certain medicines to be removed from the body faster than normal. This means that when you stop smoking, they could be removed slower and so their blood levels may increase. You should tell your doctor that you are giving up smoking if you are taking the following medicines, as when you stop smoking your doses may need to be changed:

I don't suffer from aching joints. The only thing I have noticed is that certain juices give me a very wheezy chest.
This happened most recently with some of Grizwalds juices though I must say this is just my personal response
to the juices. Kind of reminded me of having asthma again. Must be something in the juice that I'm having a reaction
to ...Please don't take this as a swipe at Grizwald because I know his juices are highly regarded....they're just not
right for me.

No side effects here other than the odd dry/sore throat. Im a light vaper though, less than 2ml a day. My wife is highly intolerant to VG though and learnt the hard way.. swollen tongue, throat rashes etc. Not good. We are still trying to find the perfect base for her.

I coughed for the first few days, and I'm on 90% PG 10 % VG but I drink gallons of tea all day and always have, so not noticing any dryness? I like mostly PG because it's easier to wick and all my PV's are tank/carto' fed, so makes it faster. I think our lungs just need a slow careful introduction to the change, and all is ok in a few days. It's a different way of drawing, and the slower and calmer pull, the better for taste and hit.

I also have the bleeding gums and have made an appointment to visit the dentist , but will investigate this further methinks.
Other than the gums i get headaches or extreme tiredness if i vape at a higher voltage or change from single coils to dual coil carto's and get too much nic in my system, a few galsses of water and no vaping for an hour or two and i am fine again.

Something that may help your gums is to 'Oil pull', with either Olive Oil (virgin) or Sunflower oil or even Coconut oil, if you can get it.
Basically, you take a Tablespoon of oil swish it gently around your mouth for up to 20 minutes then spit it out. Then just give your mouth a quick rinse with water to get rid of the taste.
I'd suggest trying 5-10 minutes the first few times, as you may need to develop a tolerance to having that much oil swilling about your mouth.
Also, whatever you do, don't swallow the stuff after you have finished. It won't kill you or anything but it will probably make you feel a bit queasy.
Try it for a couple of days, once or twice a day, preferably in the morning, before you eat or drink anything and before you brush your teeth at night.
It's an old treatment for gums and should make your gums feel good after the first use of it. Oh and you will probably notice your teeth get whiter too.
If you have sensitive teeth, you'll notice a difference there as well...

@SnailWhisperer, well that's something I've never heard of. Gotta be worth doing without the bleeding. Providing you're not just trying to trick us all into swishing oil around our mouths for half an hour lol.

Hahha..nah, I've been doing it for a few years now. Mention it to your Dentist and they'll say it doesn't do anything, but there are studies that show how 'oil pulling' reduces the amount of bacteria in your mouth quite substantially. Plus it just makes your mouth feel 'nice'..
Not only that. most, if not all, smokers have some form of gum disease, this really helps to calm inflamed gums and reduce bacteria.
I'm no medical specialist so this isn't medical advice, just my experience.

Only that I can't vape more than 70% PG or my chest and throat gets tight, my mouth instantly turns into the bottom of someones flip flop in the sahara desert. After 7mths I'm just noticing something that a lot of ECF'ers have mentioned after vaping for some time: I occasionally cough and it's 'phlegmy' for want of a better word lol I'm not ill, don't usually get it, didn't even have a smokers cough before. On the other hand, it could possibly be allergies so can't 100% attribute it to vaping.

Pixie Juice Menu: Signature juice - Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream. Others: Blackcurrant Ice. Double Mint, Vanilla Ice Cream. Still tweaking more.
My favorite pre-mixed juices: Grizwalds Strawberry Ice Cream. Copper Creek Apricot Danish. Kentucky Vanilla Blend. Kentucky No 7

I still very very occasionally cough, but it is a dry poofy wee type of cough, kind of high pitched, It last's about 2 second's. I think it want's to be a big smoker's cough, it feel's like that is what is going to happen, but it never does, it just disappear's as fast as it appeared.

am not sure if mine side effects are my heart meds or the e-liquid
the lucid dreams are from my heart meds for sure.
mornings i have ghandi flipflop tongue, very dry mouth with a dirty taste/feeling ( only since e-cigs)
chest/lung pains, feels like a finger pushing into breast bone ( maybe heart condition ?)
empty pockets, no lighters or tobacco packets, i call this empty pocket syndrome 9-10 vapists get it.
ability to handle spicey foods. i would always ask for mild curry, now i love full blown super spice but do not get the heat.
