Unsure if this is an issue with my mac or the forum...

For ages spellchecker (my automatic one) didn't spellcheck anything I typed on UKV - It used to work fine....

But now it's gone mad - underlining almost every word!

Anyone else having a random problem like this?*

*it has underlined all the above words apart from: if, an, issue, mac, forum, for, ages, I, on, fine, but, a.

UKV is the only site it does it on! I recall someone else saying their spellchecker stopped a while ago.

Sorry if this has been covered before...

Get a real computer then problem gone
I've noticed this also but had to manually select English (by right click on blank space when typing a msg, spell checker options then select English. I'm using Google chrome) are you using safari? if so cannot help revert back to first comment.

Edit: It's still not as good as it used to be but maybe something to do with chrome for me?

Takes about 3 seconds with the W7 in-built snipping tool.

I'd noticed Firefox's spellcheck not picking up UKV a while ago but it seems to be ok now. Seemed to be a Firefox problem though as I didn't have a problem with Opera.

EDIT - Maff, I noticed from that pic you've got US English on your Firefox spellcheck. Dunno why they don't localise the downloads for over here (you can get British English Firefox here) and I've gotten into the habit of dropping the UK dictionary files into my firefox install folder every time I install it.

Can't remember where I got them now but I can host them somewhere if you want 'em. ;)

Cheers tatty, I just clicked on 'Add dictionaries' and downloaded the British dictionary - so sorted now.

Also, I can't stand Windows! All my PCs/laptops had a lifespan of 2 -3 years maximum - they were pretty much unusable after that... My mum had one after 6 months it's slowed right down the point where it takes a few minutes to open internet explorer. I see people using vintage macs, as good as the day they got it - apparently - going by how this one going, I'm inclined to believe it.

Scroll up to the top of the page and underneath the UK Vapers logo, click on your name (a little menu will appear) and click on "My Settings".

Once on the "My Settings" page, you can upload your picture there - don't forget to click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page!

This thread may help: http://ukvapers.com/...resavatars-etc/

There are two places to add you photo - one for your profile and one for your avatar. When you go to edit your profile you will notice two options: "Edit your Photo" - this is the one that appears on your profile page and can be BIG, and, directly below it, "Edit your Avatar" - that's the one that appears next to your posts and can be no larger than 120 pixels square...

Also you can select "Signature" on the left hand menu on that page - if you want to?

PM me if you're still having problems.

I don't have a clue about books, trial and error in my experience :)

PC's ''for dummies'' would be a good place to start, despite the slightly offensive title they tend to be pretty good books at doing what they say on the tin :)

EDIT: I just remembered the TV telling me that which? do a computer guide for free, not sure if it would cover what you want though.

To be honest google is your best friend, if you want to know something just ask it the same as you would ask a person a question :)

Thanks to all of you for advice. I have gone through my version of P.C's for Dummies - zilch. I have Googled every site I can think of.

Dragonson has just left frustrated out of his mind - "Why won't it come up? I got one up there of me and the band"!!! Like I want one of him and his band, All I want is one of Pippa my Dragonbaby - dog. The photo I want is JPG format and I note that options are JPEG PNG or GIF. I will definitely not be doing anything more with it today (I've done Sainsbury's and Lidl's and lost the will to live - I loathe shopping.) but if anyone has any ideas and please bear in mind I didn't shake hands with a P.C until I was in my 83rd year - you all got suckled on the bloody things!!!!!! God love you all especially you Dave - I appreciate any help but I have to do this MYSELF. I feel like a total eejit!

Give me a PM if you're really stuck and I'll walk you through it. I can do simple steps because it's the only way I learn myself but, you're right, often the best way to learn computers is to muddle through yourself.

No shame in asking for help if you've arrived at the 'boot through the screen' stage though. :)

Doesn't matter what forum you go on, what the subject is, from e-fags to e-shags, as soon as someone mentions they have a Mac all the PC police jump on them.

Truth is, wether it's a PC or an apple Mac makes absolutely no difference whatsoever. What does make a difference is the operating system but no one ever mentions that.

Your PC may well be far superior to all three of my MacBook Pro's, in fact I'd be inclined to agree. However... 99% of all PC users I know will all tell you, Windows sucks. 99% of all the OSX users I know will also all tell you OSX is by far the most superior OS they've ever used.

And I can't understand why it's "Gates vs Jobs all over again"? Bill Gates has never built a PC in his life.

To answer the initial question Maff, I know you've now sorted it but no, never had that problem with my Mac or Safari.

Funny how some Mac users come out to defend something so great it shouldn't need defending?

In order of pantsness IE comes first, then Firefox, and Chrome beats them all, with all the testing I've done. (once you stop Google sniffing about in y'pants)

Ahh, but the same could be said about vaping. If you enjoy it, you're gonna defend it when it gets attacked by baseless nonsense. Aaaaahh.. ;)

I'm too old for the Mac vs PC thing these days, but I will say that Safari is a damn good browser at the moment, and anyone technically minded on a Mac should get GlimmerBlocker too; it's immensely powerful ad blocking and page alteration that works system-wide. Best way to keep Google and others out of y'pants, whether they give you the chance to opt out or not.
