Hello All,
It would appear that getting e-liquid in your mouth or on your skin is a bad idea. This has happened to me a few times now, in my first proper week of vaping. Exactly how harmful is it, should this happen?

Maybe I should add that the reason e-liquid is identified as toxic is because the nicotine content is potentially toxic, and overdose could be possible if too high a dose was applied to skin or mouth (and risk also increased if the person happened to have zero tolerance to nicotine).

But the infrequent odd drop spilled on to skin of a regular nicotine user wouldn't be toxic, and you would probably wouldn't notice (much of) an effect (of nicotine).

But wash it off anyway, as this has to be the official advice (due to potential toxicity).

Yep, rinsing it off is all that's required unless you're mixing up your own liquids with really strong nic bases (over 36mg/ml). You'd notice an itching at the point of contact within a few seconds if there was any kind of problem, so if there's no itching don't worry and just rinse it, and if there's itching rinse it and from then on wear disposable gloves when handling eliquid. If you get it in your mouth it won't itch but it's normal for the area to feel 'buzzy' or numb; that's just the nicotine doing its job.
Also, don't try drinking eliquid since that's gonna really mess you up, so if you have kids make sure it's kept away from them at all times.

Thank you all for the advice. I guess the bit that worried me most is when I get it come up through the PV and into my mouth. This happens rarely but nonetheless.

Any strength you can vape at is fine if a bit of gurgle gets up the mouthpiece. It's probably an idea to put the PV down for a few mins if you do get more than a tiny amount in your mouth, due to the sudden influx of nic it'll give you, but most of what comes out is condensation from vapour anyway so it's likely to be weaker than the juice you filled with. Using a non metal and/or shorter drip tip can reduce the amount of condensation in there with atties and cartos, but with some stuff like the top coil clearos with chambered mouthpieces you'll always get condensation being trapped in the top of the mouthpiece. Those are designed to capture such condensation before it gets to you tho, so they are just performing as intended.

At the concentrations we use for vaping getting a drop in the mouth now and then isn't likely to be any more harmful than chewing nicotine gum or using snus. Typical juices contain around 18-24 mg/ml of nicotine and a potentially lethal dose is 0.5 - 1.0 mg per kilo bodyweight

Yup, and 2 drops (the most you're likely to get in your mouth within an hour) is officially 0.1ml of liquid (20 drops per ml), so that's 1.8-2.4mg of nicotine coming at you from one of the larger gurgle-spurts.

it tastes foul.. getting any of it in your mouth isnt pleasant.. if you are getting it in your mouth on a regular you are doing something wrong.. the foul taste is the problem its not likely to do any other harm.. nether are relatively small quantities on the skin..

its not really anything to worry about just dont bathe in it..

And I bet we've all bathed in a helluva sight more dangerous stuff than ejuice - like the sewage on one of our beaches a few seasons
back, and have you seen what goes into cheapy shower gels???

The tobacco flavours taste foul but many others can taste quite palatable, if a little too concentrated. There certainly shouldn't be much getting out as liquid (be it condensate or concentrate) but sometimes it does happen more often than it should due to just thin liquid as well as user error like overfilling.

wurzel, I wouldn't worry to much about the odd little drop on your hand or fingers when you've got these to noobs trying to test other parts of there bodies for vaping techniques LMFAO :)

Can just imaging Dave downing a few strong German lagers and instead of lifting his glass to his mouth, he puts a Touchwood in his eye lol.
and as for Kenny!!! I dread to think, maybe trying to see if a GGTS was the right width to use as a condom or just found a new way of flavouring his e-liquid LMAO.

The mind boggles?

At some stage everyone is going to get some E-liquid on their hands the odd drop or two is not going to harm you but it`s a good idear to wash it off.
The important thing with big spills is to not leave it on and DONT rub it in like hand cream. Just stop what you are doing you must wash it off as soon as you can with cool water.

Say what you will, but vaping menthol through the nose is a truly excellent way to keep the pipes clear when you've got a cold coming on.
