Hope you like the fresh new look and will enjoy the new software as much as I have been. Although similar, as most forums have the same basic functionality, there are also a fair few changes. I'll give a brief rundown of the major changes below.
New look! This is the most obvious, and if you don't like the default look there are no less than 3 alternative themes to choose from (they can be selected from the dropdown menu at the bottom of the page). That said, the alternatives are just that, and I make no guarantees that things work absolutely perfectly in them, although the basics will of course be just fine.
Member blogs. You can now have your very own blog, or even 2 if you like. They can be either private or public, and you can allow other members to post on them if you want to as well.
Chat. Something many of you have wanted for a long time, well now we have it.
Status updates. This is like our own inhouse simplified version of twitter, built right into the forums. You can update your status (ie prattle on about any old garbage like I often do) either by going to your profile or from the sidebar on the forum index page. Status updates can then be viewed either on the sidebar or on this page. Nothing major, but something that gives another social aspect to the site.
There are lots of other little things, but frankly I'm a bit tired after working on this all day so I'm bound to be missing bits and pieces.
There are also a few quirks - some of the post formatting is a bit off. Nothing major but some posts look a little messy. Feel free to edit your posts if you spot anything like this. Also smilies from the converted posts don't seem to want to display, I'll look for a fix for that tomorrow. On the bright side, I've installed some extra smilies.
You'll likely want to go into the settings and fill things out again - a good idea at least is to enable the visual (RTE) editor which is a really nice post editor, much better than the old vBulletin one. Also you may want to upload a profile picture (that is seperate to your avatar) as IPB uses that in a number of places, not just when viewing your profile.
Some things are bound to need knocking into shape a little, and I still have a few additions to make which I'll finish off tomorrow. If you need help, just ask. Also, I know I mentioned an articles system - it is paid for but I haven't had the time to quite get my head around that yet, so that will be added a little later on.
If you have any problems logging in, please clear your browser cookies and cache and try again. With the switch those little cookies can get a bit confused
Anyway, enough rambling from me, hope you enjoy the new forum and extras!
