I've noticed that a lot of my favourite all day vapes have recently taken a nose-dive in quality and flavour and have a "funny" background taste. This is not any one supplier but straight across the board.

Oh wait now, stop.

Stop right there. You can't fob me off with the old "Oh your taste-buds are probably changing" line because I have the old stuff right next to the new stuff, right in front of me right now, and the difference is like Fillet Minion vs Fillet of Fish.

I suspect that the issue lies with the glycol base that everybody is currently using. Buying ready-mixes is kind of the shallow end of my vape experience, - since I used to roll my own, I tend to mix my own. But can I find a decent flavourless nicotine base these days? No. Every brand I've ordered from about May onward this year - from trusted suppliers such as Decadent Vapours, Liberty Flights and others, to America, China and beyond - all taste rank and smell worse. It used to be clear and largely odourless. Now it's a jaundiced yellow and smells like the neighbourhood cat has pissed in it.

I am not the only one to have noticed this and many of my vape-buddies have noted the same change...

Did some-one forget to write down the recipe or something?

there was some Nic 75% base going really cheap about two months back that was tinged pink for about $40 a litre perhaps this has fillted down into juice's and has affected the flavor ??

Can I just say I love you?!!!

Thank goodness it is not just me.

I AM NOT GOING INSANE! (okay I am slightly insane)

I can't tell you what a relief this post is to me, in some ways, and not in others - I worry now that the order from China I just made will be the same "foisty" flavour too.

I've honestly believed that I am going mad... but like you, I had the old and new to compare and definitely found a dramatic change in taste... not only is there a nasty background flavour.. but the flavourings I add are almost held in the liquid dulled almost to be impossible to detect.

Although it is comforting that someone else is experiencing this, I'm sorry to say that it has me worried about my vaping future.

Is this happening with the TW PI ?.....If it is then I'm sure Peter will be interested....All the PI I've got I bought last year and it seems OK...
I do have a similar problem in that nearly all flavours taste terrible, theres only cafe B and now Peanut brittle from enjuice that I vape..
This has now lasted for the last 6 months.....

I've had a pre-made flavours that seem to taste chemical, like surgical spirits or something... and then I can't get the smell out of my nose all day! As far as I can remember, these were TW's Patriot Range (2 of them), the OhMG liquids (all of them that I tried), and more recently Vapor Station's Cafe Sumatra. Positively disgusting! (sorry, vendors!). I came to the conclusion it was something to do with the PG they used as I had a huge bottle of PG I bought a year ago and it turned funny with exactly the same sort of chemical or clinical smell to it.

Apart from that, I seem to have gone off most flavours for a few weeks now, which isn't like me at all as I used to love tons of them. I've got stacks of flavours and concentrates and all I use now is ENJuice's Peach Iced Tea (which is more like a non-descript sort of menthol to me, LOL) and TW's Watermelon (which tastes nothing like Watermelon to me) and maybe Liberro's Apple (which also tastes nothing like apple to me, LOL!). I thought it was just me and my taste buds or something as I don't think there's anything wrong with the flavours, just that I've somehow become "immune" to them.

Trouble is, that I'm getting bored with the same 2-3 flavours but look at all the others and think "nah, don't fancy them". So I feel in a Catch-22 situation in that I want other flavours but don't feel like them. :baffled:

I can honestly say I haven't noticed, but I'm very sorry for those of you who have. :(

Perhaps it's not that your sense of taste/smell is playing up or changing, but that it's more finely tuned than most? I mean I know both have obviously improved for me since I started vaping but it wouldn't be a surprise to me to discover I don't have a very refined palate and hence haven't noticed.

I've used Dekang Vanilla 90% of the time for the last year or so , and haven't noticed any difference in flavour, but like you said it may just be the flavourless,

I've noticed some of my liquids getting a little odd over time, but I think that's because I don't really keep them chilled. This is particularly noticeable on darker coloured liquids. My unflavoured PG (LF) dates back from last year and is still good (the little I have left), but some Intellicig Krystal discoloured, and got a little smelly. Fortunately, like Jackie, I suspect that my sense of taste isn't really sharp enough to cause me too many 'yeuk' problems.

I've always wondered what the scientific basis for keeping juice cool is, in food's it's to slow down bacteria growth which in turn makes food taste bad. Nicotine and PG/VG themselves kill bacteria so anything that could harbor bacteria, such as flavorings and additives is bathed in an anti-bacterial stew.

It's to slow down oxidation, mainly.

So we would do better to fully (or best as one can) evacuate the air from containers when storing them for prolonged periods?

If practical then it can do no harm... I believe that cool and dark helps preserve for longer. (well I hope so, as I still have 1.5 litres)

The thing is ... that even before we buy it, under what conditions and for how long could it of been stored for before even getting to us.

Do you keep your 1.5 litres in small 30ml / 50ml bottles or is it all in one large container?

I recently (< month ago) purchased 2 x 1070ml Dekang Menthol from e-liquid.cn however it came in two one litre bottles. Would it be worth decanting this in to smaller containers? I am currently keeping it in a thick black bin bag (keeping it dark) and in a cupboard under my sink (quite cool). I would be pretty upset if this stuff spoils before I get a chance to vape it.

I thought of putting it in to my fridge but I fear it is far too cold. Though I could buy a wine fridge which could be set at a warmer temp... it's just more clutter in my apartment......but then may be worth it to preserve the juice.

It's more noticeable with the VG RY4 I bought from you recently - it has a kind of pointy (sorry can't think of a better word) background aspect that was not present in the previous batch I bought. I still have some of the old stuff left so I was able to compare the two. It's not totally horrible - it's just not as nice.

I ordered a decadent vapours apple flavour about a month and a half ago. it was the vilest i have ever had, it was tasteless and made the atomizer run hot - i thought i was doing something wrong. its still 95% full and will never be used again. I ordered some patriot range tobacco flavour and it has a strange chemical taste to it - certainly doesnt taste like tobacco..in fact the only flavour I have ever had tip top was some icig yes (ICIG) menthol juice i bought off amazon.

But i bought some ego cartomizers recently filled with RY4 and that is just perfect. ive ordered some RY4 and look forward to its arrival.

I couldnt tell you if this batch is messed up, but i can say i will never order totally wicked or decadent vapours flavours again.

RY4 forever!

It's an interesting thread...

I have dekang and some other chinese import flavoured PG juices and fact is my cheapest juices have been some of the best, tasting 'clean'. However, I bought 3 x 30ml of the DV pre-mix PG mentholyptus at 36mg, (love the concentrate), and 'smack smack' I kinda get a mild but weird 'plastic' aftertaste in this, not particularly pleasant - but is it just my taste buds playing tricks? .... I'll be cutting and adding some extra menthol concentrate so hope it drowns this aftertaste, or I'll be throwing £30 down the sink! ;) (Hell, would have been £60 full price!) .
