This could be another great resource. Out of the pubs we visit on our trawls and crawls, which are our favourites and why?

Information to include could be;

  • Name of Pub:
  • Address:
  • County:
  • Description/Reason:

I'm always on the look out, especially when I'm on holiday :)

Name of Pub: The Anglers Rest
Address: Park Street, Wombwell, BARNSLEY
County: South Yorkshire
Description/Reason: A small traditional pub with good beer and a great (usually quiet) atmosphere. The prices are good and the landlady Simone is fantastic. This place is like a blast from the past, but clean! Plus travellers can stop over upstairs from £25 per night. The Anglers has also embraced vaping :D.

Name of Pub: The George and Dragon
Address: Main Street, Wentworth, ROTHERHAM
County: South Yorkshire
Description/Reason: Set in the picturesque village of Wentworth, it is a traditional pub with good beer that also does food. I normally hate foody pubs but when I'm in Wentworth, I think I'm on holiday in the middle of nowhere (even though I'm only 10 mins away from home). There is a large beer garden to the rear. Not tried vaping there yet!

Name of Pub: Rockingham Arms
Address: Main Street, Wentworth, ROTHERHAM
County: South Yorkshire
Description/Reason: The location is again fantastic. I would recommend a visit to Wentworth if you are ever in South Yorkshire. This has more of an Old Coach House feel. Theakston's Old Peculiar is a good enough reason to visit any pub, but when it looks like the Rock and set in a beautiful village, it is worth making a little detour for also. The pub also does food and has a massive beer garden, a bowling green and The Barn. The Barn is a function room for weddings etc BUT it often has folk music nights.

Name of Pub: The Market Hotel
Address: Wentworth Road, Elsecar, BARNSLEY (only a couple of miles from Wentworth)
County: South Yorkshire
Description/Reason: Situated next to Elsecar Heritage Centre, The Market always has a good range of well kept Real Ales at really cheap prices. In fact Barnsley CAMRA shabbily organised a Beer Festival across the road from this pub in 2009, where people had to pre-book tickets; many people (including myself) turned up without tickets and were turned away; they were not disappointed when they relocated to The Market. Landlord Dave is a great character also.

Name of Pub: The Edmunds Arms
Address: Worsbrough Village, Worsbrough, BARNSLEY
County: South Yorkshire
Description/Reason: A Sam Smith's pub in a great location across from the church where the Worsbrough Mystery Plays were/are held. Great atmosphere and cheap Sam Smith's beer.

Name of Pub: Kelham Island Tavern
Address: Russell Street, SHEFFIELD
County: South Yorkshire
Description/Reason: Fantastic selection of top quality Real Ales at good prices. CAMRA National Pub of the Year for the last two years. Part of a Real Ale Pub Crawl in that area of Sheffield that I would recommend to anyone staying in Sheffield for a night.

Name of Pub: Riverside
Address: Mowbray Street, SHEFFIELD
County: South Yorkshire
Description/Reason: Part of the Sheffield Real Ale pub crawl. Decent selection of rotating Real Ales, though not as good as the other three - neither is the quality. The selling point of this place is its Terrace overlooking the river. Worth visiting for one pint.

Name of Pub: Sheffield Tap
Address: Sheffield Train Station, SHEFFIELD
County: South Yorkshire
Description/Reason: A fantastic array of Thornbridge Real Ales and the perfect starting point for any night out in Sheffield or for a night cap before catching the last train home . Not officially part of the crawl, BUT only a short taxi ride to the Kelham Island area. If you are ever passing through Sheffield on a train - jump off, have a pint or few and get a later train to your destination!!!
