After days spent struggling with solder and epoxy - I've finally put together my USB box mod, which I though some of you may like to see.

It's powered by a 3.7v 700mAh Li-on battery designed to go in a nintendo wiimote & I've sawed off the unnecessary plastic bits to make it fit as shown below. It has a standard 801 connector & Joye 302 atty.

Vapour is a bit weak as you can also see, but I think that may be the switch, which isn't rated for that high an ampage.

The baccy box is half size and cost £2.99 including a pack of giant skins and two lighters. The battery was £7.99 from gamestation, so provided you're OK with soldering & epoxy work - it's an easy and cheap USB passthrough charging mod.

You can get the wii mote batteries a lot cheaper on ebay, and the baccy boxes from your friendly pound shops if anyone wants to save a few quid LOL!

Googled, that is definitely the right battery, and as Wryly says, you probably can get them a lot cheaper on eBay. After a few days with it, I'm not 100% convinced that this is actually truly packing the full 3.7V though. It works - just doesn't perform as well as I'd hoped

Although the normal protected li-ion batteries we commonly use are marked 3.6 or 3.7 volts, they are charged to something around 4.2 volts and have a cut off at 2.75

If the battery your using (with its built in charger circuitry) is only charging to 3.6 volts, then its rather like using a normal battery that's half discharged before you start..

There may also be another issue with your battery discharge rate. and maybe current / voltage limiting, but with out knowing the exact specs of the built in circuitry its hard to know.

You could always get a meter and measure the voltage during use.

Thanks Dave - but rather than go out and buy a multimeter, I think I'll slap a Low Resistance Atty on and see what happens
