I would like to start the ball rolling with a question that has come through the UK Vapefest website, which I would like those attending to give an opinion on please.

The question has been asked as to whether children can come along to Vapefest.

I do realise that ultimately the decision has to come from the Plough & Harrow, although I surmise as its a private function, children will be allowed.

Do you feel that the setting and subject of Vaping is a suitable place for children?

Personally, I dont see a problem, providing the children are under firm control. We had some children at MiniFest, and they proved to be no problem at all.

However, it does mean we all have to be aware of the additional dangers of juice, which im certain all parents would keep out of childrens way, in the home, will be absolutely everywhere..

hmmmm.... not being a child friendly person myself, (I prefer them fried rather than boiled) they'd have to be well controlled, I think, because, as you say, there's going to be a lot of juice kicking about, and I really don't want to be responsible for a nipper being carted off to hospital. It's a knotty one...

E-cigs are not "quit smoking" devices - they are an alternative way to smoke, but with a much reduced risk profile. Believe this - it's true. E-cig users are NOT quitters.

Agreed Dave, we do have to be very aware of Health & Safety, and as I am also not particularly 'child friendly' either, I dont want to be seen as the Wicked Witch of the North East, although I probably am.. :broom: I didnt have a problem at York with the children who were brought there, however, Vapefest is likely to be bigger, with more people, more dangers..

Vaping is an adult activity, and as such maybe we should state that for Health & Safety reasons, children should not be allowed at functions based around Vaping.

Also, we dont want to be seen as encouraging children to Vape, and it could be seen that way.

So although my initial reaction was yes fine, the more I think about it, the more I am coming down on the side of discouraging children from these events.

I think it's a good idea to not get kids to mix up liquid as well... ;)

I would think it best to say no kids as well. I don't mind kids at all, but the last thing we'd need or want is for a curious child to have an accident.

i wrote out a bit schpiel but deleted it as on ponderment of the issue and maybe also sounding a bit wicked witch of the west...

i dont think vapefest is a place for kiddies...i cant think of how they would enjoy it at all without the people in attendance taking the focus of vapefest from the issues and conversations that'll be brought up to something else to help keep kiddies entertained...

there are dangers associated with the eliquid which will be there in abundance and i agree that it can be seen from the outside as us being complacent when it comes to ideas formed by youths on taking up smoking/vaping...

i just can't see why or how they fit into the meet if the meet is solely based on vaping....i think minimeets are slightly different as there arent so many people coming to one big event rather a small informal group having a chat.

just my opinion but i understand and wont be put out if there are kids there...(if there are children at it i feel there should be a time from which on the saturday evening children are not allowed, but thats the same in all pubs isnt it?)

Pubs are not the place for children!

My parents had the same opinion so they left me and my sister in the car outside the pub every saturday and sunday afternoon session, occasionally bringing us out a soft drink and a bag of crisps,,,,,,,aaaahhhh,,,,,those were the days :D

Hmmmm... some adult fun should be kept adult fun... ;)

There's a place for kids, and maybe it ain't with a bunch of adults vaping, and boozing, and having adult conversation 'adult to adult'...
