I voted online forum, but the forum was not an ecig one. Sav, my daughter saw them mentioned on Pistonheads forum, and did a search based on that.

online "other"
Was actually e-bay at the time they were allowing their sale. I was 4 or 5 days into quiting using nicorette gum and was getting low. I didn't want to pay the price of a new one so searched for nicorette inhalator and plenty of ecigs came up.
Being a bit of a gadget freak i thought "whoa, cool ", ended up buying a super-smoker starter kit ( dse-103 i think it was ) , when i got it i was chuffed , this thing was doing the job all james bond like, i was stoked with it.
I did rather quickly kill it by the typical new user error and vaped it dry, burning out the attie. That led me to a general google search for ecigs which took me to ECF.
The rest is history as they say.

I heard about them from a colleague at work, went home, found ECF, read up on everything and ordered a mini-pipe

I was browsing the online shop 'Iwantoneofthose' and came across the Gamucci model. It just caught my interest at that particular time because I had developed a bit of a cough and was suffering from trying to convince myself to stop smoking even though I didn't want to. A bit of searching later and I was lucky to order my first from e-cigs.co.uk (now Liberro).

Desperation and Disappointment as I had started smoking again so the internet found Gamucchi for me

Yeah, I can't remember how I came across the link to Gamucchi tbh, but that was my first 'hit' if I can recall... then I just did loads of other research until I bought my first kit from LF. I think it was a Scott review which made my mind up not to buy from them... the rest is history... so maybe it was thanks to Scott I ended up researching e-cigs, and draining my bank account??!!

I think I saw some silly Ryuan (SP?) advert on youtube way back in 2007. Did an internet search and bought a penstyle. They were pretty expensive back then and not really worth the money. Much better now though.

I first heard about them a few years ago when they were on the TV news but I didn't pay attention and foolishly dismissed it as a gimmic that couldn't possibly work.
I voted "word of mouth" as that's where I heard about them and acted on it..

The BBC website of all places. There was a piece on there when I started looking for alternative methods of getting nicotine back in 2008.

I've voted "Word of mouth/recommendation", but could easily have voted "Internet Forum". I'll explain.....
On another (non vaping) forum, someone posted that they had got one (from TECC if memory serves, so probably a Titan or Tornado), and I remember being quite intrigued, but skint, so promptly forgot all about it. Earlier this year, on a camping "meet-up" with that forum member, she was showing the device to people, but for some reason I can't recall, I promptly forgot all about it. Again.
Then, I was out shopping a couple of Saturdays ago with the missus, saw the E-Lites stand and decided to try them, based on aforementioned friend's comments. I must get in touch and see what it was that she got actually

The drummer in a band that uses my place came in with one hanging out of the corner of his mouth, after he'd been in for a month or so using a plastic tampon. I asked about it, tried it, and hit the web to find one.

Cbg, you could be the most senior vaper here, it's rare to find anyone who has been vaping more than two and a half years.
At the moment there are 19 votes and I think it's very sad that not one of them was information from a health professional. They love to pester us and give us shit but when it comes to doing something that actually helps they haven't a clue.

I started a Smoking Cessation program 6 months ago at my doctors surgery. I quit the sessions on day 2 but was amazed there were a lot more aids available than the patches and gum I was familiar with, sadly e-gigs were never mentioned.

Hi Langtonian, I haven't welcomed you to the forum yet ... so hello and welcome
One of the big messages from smoke cessation peeps is that it has to be unpleasant, they just don't get it that folks would be more successful if there were nice alternatives to smoke.

I voted "online other" as it was a combo of online places. Initially, in Oct 08 I saw an article I found by sheer accident in some unknown to me online magazine or blog referring to a ... yes, Gamucci like some of the rest of you. I bought one off a supposedly authorised Gamucci reseller on eBay. The ruddy thing lasted barely two days and both the eBay seller and Gamucci ignored me re their supposed guarantee.
But it didn't put me off and I went on the hunt for some more information on it as I felt the principle had real potential, and fell upon ECF when it was still reasonably small compared to now. Having read almost every topic there was (yes, it was still small enough to do so even if it took a few days, LOL!) and having asked a couple of typical newbie questions (thanks, Kate, for the replies
), I learnt all I could before deciding what to get. My first e-cig was a 901 from E-Cigs.co.uk (now Liberro), and an Evo (which I gave up soon after) followed shortly after by a penstyle.
Both my dentist and GP were in highly approving awe when I told them about it and gave them a demo and both asked for more info on it. The dentist wanted to point other patients to where to go, and I suspect my GP lurked on forums as he seemed to become quite well informed on e-cigs a few months later. Earlier this year, he was outraged by the MHRA consultation and said he'd not respond to it in writing but would talk to them in person. I never did know what the outcome of it was though.

I voted Online Other as I saw discussion of e-cigs on a couple of non e-cig forums and a blog or two.

I read an article about June Brown (Dot Cotton) using e-cigs where she was unable to smoke. Looked them up online, nearly ordered some NJoys but finally found ECF in the nick of time.

I recieved a mailshot from Ebuyer. Prompltly ordered a Health E-cigarette. I must admit, it was about as useful as a one-legged man in an arse-kicking competition, but it DID open my mind to the possibilities. On the folllowing quest for e-cig information I soon discovered UKV, took the sound advice of members (bless y'all) , and bought the right devices for the job. Now more than six months smoke-free and lovin' it!

Saw a post about them on Digital Spy discussion forum with a link to minicig.com I think it was. This was late 2008 and luckily the ecig was a 901 so started out with a good example then moved on to big battery devices and LR atomiser but still 901's.
