I think it's important for us to respond to the EU consultation and to let the WHO know we're not going to dissolve for their convenience.
Thanks.

I'll definitely be responding. I can't do all that much, but writing letters I can do.

Thanks Jackie. To be honest I don't think it's essential for each of us to do a great job of writing, rather just to let them know we're watching and expecting them to act in the real public interest. Collectively we should cover all the essential points I'm sure.
Even a brief note from everyone will show them that there are real people out here so please don't anyone feel that you have to know all the issues or be very articulate - just tell them to get their thieving corporate hands off our nicotine (or whatever you think the real issue is for you
).

It never rains but it pours. I will try to write something helpful.

You may be interested to know (or not, as the case may be!) that I shall be meeting with my French counterpart in the next couple of weeks, and as well as discussing our collective assault on the European Commission, we shall be discussing how best to coordinate responses going in from our contacts across the EU. We have already seen how discombobulated the MHRA were by the overwhelming response to their consultation. I reckon by harnessing the power of all the vapers across Europe (or making our best efforts to achieve this! LOL) we might just be able to drown this Consultation in responses which will take them upwards of 5 years to read!
Please, even if writing is not really 'your thing', do tell them what you think - it really does help. Also, do remember Kate's advice: we have to be careful what we say, so that they get the message that these are NOT quit smoking/medicinal products, and are NOT tobacco products either. They are simply recreational alternatives.
Thank you everyone.
Cheers,
Katherine

Katherine, my MEP is vice president of the European Parliament and he signed our petition. If you think of any way he can help let me know and I'll contact him or you can do that yourself.
I'll be very interested to hear any strategy ideas you come up with during your travels. If you want VN to spread any news or appeals let me know.

That sounds great, and I'll certainly be emailing you once I've met with Romain. I'm sure you'll have lots of useful advice - you've been absolutely amazing so far. Thank you so much for all you have done and are doing. I've seen a lot of abuse posted in various places about your efforts, along with many, many compliments, but as far as I'm concerned, you are a star!
Cheers,
Katherine

Some of that abuse is deserved, I have to admit, lol. The important thing is for us all to contribute in whatever way we can and I just happen to have too much time on my hands

Those damn Yankees prolly, Dee. I keep asking why they want tobacco control and they keep telling me to mind my own business. Which is really rich because I found out today that one of their main activists has been lobbying the WHO to take ecigs into tobacco control regulation. Fuck you very much Ms America, never mind that will probably mean an instant ban for the whole of Europe, just so long as you get to play politics and pretend you're doing something useful.

Responded.
The doc isn't that tricky to read so it's best to read it to the end to understand what the questions are and how you want to respond.
Another good find Kate.

I knew that this day will come I was just hoping that it wont be so soon, OMG this sucks!!!
Well I have never had any respect for the authority's and this directive is not gonna change on that. If this bill goes through I will become a e-liquid vendor that's for sure!!!
It's just so hard to imagine that us, vipers would have any chance against tobacco industry lobbyists. However this: "...we might just be able to drown this Consultation in responses which will take them upwards of 5 years to read..." makes sense.
So count me in. I'll send a note before the deadline, just to pissed off right now to be able to write anything constructive
...
Thumbs up for your work Kate, you are truly a star

The deadline for submissions of comments is extended to 17 December 2010
I just filed the form and found out that I needed to read some before I could answer the questions. I'm dead tired so it would be a pain stacking process right now, To my fortune the deadline is extended
,,, I'll not be waiting for the last moment this time, though..
I'm just amused to see that so few people are showing any interest for this matter, hmm perhaps ppl feel powerless against the tobacco industry and so do I but this really makes sense:
"...we might just be able to drown this Consultation in responses which will take them upwards of 5 years to read..."
Well perhaps ppl would feel differently if they were living in a country where the e-liquids ware already under ban, like I do

As soon as I've had a chance to have a look at the proposals I'll post back here and outline the points I think are important and need to be addressed. Please could other folks who have read the consultation documents and have some ideas of the issues do the same ... thanks.
