I'm of the opinion (regardless of what has already been said in this thread) that adults can and invariably will do as they wish, 'illegal' substances and practices notwithstanding.

Is it a good idea for an adult who does not smoke tobacco products to take up vaping? Only the adults in question can answer that question, we can tack our slant and / or bias onto the question but ultimately it's irrelevant, it's a matter of personal choice as are most things in life.

I personally think mountaineers are amongst the stupidest people on the planet, and should be left to their fate if they have a problem, instead we will risk the lives of a search and rescue party, spend many, many thousands of pounds on a rescue operation, to recover some twit who wanted to climb a mountain 'because it was there'. Yet, drive a car without a seat belt on...

However, as adults it's their choice to climb or not.

Is there any benefit for a non smoker to vape? Yes, absolutely there are benefits and not just to the individual concerned.

This is a different, and in my view the pertinent question. And the simple answer is yes, in certain circumstances there are benefits to the non smoker who may wish to vape.

Recreational use is obvious..people will choose to vape (even at zero nicotine) because it is pleasurable, the paraphernalia, the social and hobby related aspects, flavour etc. all go to make vaping an attractive proposition.

Medicinal use is not so obvious, but is a perfectly valid use for therapeutic nicotine delivery.

Nicotine, while admittedly an addictive chemical, is also beneficial to our health in many ways, although as with everything too much is not so beneficial.

Recent studies have shown nicotine to be an important factor in preventative medicine in areas such as Parkinson's disease.

Nicotine interacts with the 'pleasure centres' of our brains, and as a result encourages the production of Dopamine, while simultaneously inhibiting the production of Monoamine Oxidase, (MAO) a group of Enzymes present in our cells (actually in the 'power packs' of our cells) and are responsible for the breakdown of Dopamine and other neurotransmitters.

An over expression of MAO is thought to be responsible for many human health problems, including (but not limited to) depression, psychiatric disorder, sexual dysfunction, Anxiety and can delay the onset of puberty.

The upshot is, nicotine is useful as an anti-psychotic and for general psychological disorders.

Obesity is fast becoming a huge problem in this country (no pun intended), and is set to cripple our health service if left to continue as it is. Nicotine acts as an appetite suppressant, and there are treatments given to obese patients (adult and juvenile) centred around this fact, and encouraging results are being observed.

So really, the deeper we delve into the subject (tip of the iceberg so far) there are many reasons why it would be a good idea to vape nicotine, especially if you fall into the Obese/psychological camps.

Of course, nicotine can be effectively delivered via smoking as we all know too well, but we also all know that tends to result in earlier death from related diseases or conditions, so again vaping is a clear winner as a preferred method to deliver nicotine.

Like anything, there are positives and negatives attached to most things in this life. Moderation is key.

Given the choice as a non smoker, whether to chew gum, wear patches, inhale spray or vape funky, fruity flavours i'd choose to vape. This is i suspect, what is going on in at least a percentage of these cases where non smokers choose to vape.

Just my opinion folks.

Well I reckon that non smokers should start with nicotine patches first when they are young and then progress onto smoking when they are older!!!!

How daft would that be? Vaping in my opinion is for smokers who want to get away from tar, carbon monoxide, nitrousamines, arsenic and all the other nasties in analogs but don't have the will power to just stop. Patches have never appealed to me as a way of stopping and believe me, over the past 36 years that I have smoked I have tried hypnosis, willpower, champix, herbal cigs, cutting down etc. None have worked. Patches do not work for me because the give a continual dose throughout the day when what I want is a hit every so often, a nicotine spike if you like. I took up vaping 3 months ago and have not had a single analog since that first day. Vaping gives me the hit, something to do with my hands and the satisfaction of being able to play with the "smoke" as I exhale or inhale.
I knew a doctor in egypt who didn't smoke cigarettes yet smoked the hookah pipes every night, watermelon flavour was his favourite, yet he developed one hell of a smokers cough and had chest pains and bronchitis from it. For a non smoker to take up vaping because it is cool or forwhatever reason is just plain stupid if you ask me, a bit like injecting water into your veins cos you think pete doherty is cool cos he shagged kate moss but you don't want to become a junky.
