I realise we've had a hell of a lot of downtime lately, and believe me I find it far from acceptable as well (I'm pondering switching to a new host).

However, the cause of the latest server misery has been pinned down to a faulty hard drive in the raid array, and so that drive needs to be replaced.

The server (and hence UKV) will be brought offline at around 10pm tonight in order to replace the drive. How long it will be down for is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string, but I've been told anywhere from 30 mins to 5 hours.

I'm hoping for 30 mins.

Hope you are right Jackie but I doubt the 30 mins bit lol. but who knows.

would have been much better to do these swaps later at night rather than at peak times when all users are online. Most companies do their maintenance 2am-5am usually. But we will have to persevere with it.

On a fully redundant array, they could swap out the duff drive and slide in another one without any downtime at all - that's part of the design.

Hmmm... a move might be wise....

I'm not happy with any of this, trust me. It's not really my host at fault, but I've little trust in the datacenter. I am seriously considering moving us elsewhere.

Well after much deliberation I've decided to move us. Unfortunately that means I need to take the forums down really soon (like within the next 10 mins or so), otherwise I'd have to wait and we'd have double downtime (don't think anyone wants that!).

Soooo....forum will be going down shortly, sorry for the short notice!

Hit a slight snag while transferring files so that delayed things a bit, but I think we're good to go now.

If anyone has any problems or notices any strangeness (with the forum that is, we expect it with the members!), please let me know.
