my friend at work is pregnant and still smoking, I wanted to give her a Tornado to play with to see how she got on but we read the instructions and it said you can't use it if you're pregnant or breast feeding - why not?

does anyone know if it's safe to vape when you're pregnant?

Why dont you mix some base liquid up for her with some tobacco flavour in it, better than smoking the real thing, or some other flavour, that she might like.

It's a bit of a judgement call really. I mean we can't say vaping is 100% safe because there are no long term studies (like over 10, 20, 30 years), so we definitely couldn't say it's safe for a pregnant woman.
That said, if she's still smoking, personally I'd be weighing up which is the lesser of the two evils. But the official line is probably best kept to 'we don't know'.

Well according to this article nicotine patches are less harmful than smoking so surely ecigs could be regarded as safer also?
http://www.pregnancy...-pregnant-women
While the nicotine patch lets at least one of the potentially harmful chemicals found in cigarettes enter a woman's body, Dr. Ogburn believes it's still far less harmful than smoking.
I know we don't want to go down this road and make claims but I know what I would do in this lady's position.

I tend to agree and if I was pregnant I would definately be vaping rather than smoking but I'm not her and none of us can really "advise" her with any certainty (or facts)
But if anyone can find any facts I would be hugely grateful

...and thats the beauty of vaping as it addresses the enjoyable bit in a way that patches and gum can't
Vaping what the hell I like (as usual) Sharing the joy of the SDK with pub-goers but enjoying the intensity of the HH357 at home and the sheer practicality and fafflesness (its a word i made up) of the Lil mama on the Touchwood. 306DCA..dripping monster

First, the obligatory disclaimer: I am NOT a medical professional, and so cannot give medically qualified advice.
(Phew... glad that's out of the way! lol)
I have, however, got a fair amount of experience when it comes to the whole pregnancy thing... with the 4 minifreaks alive and well to prove it!
(Although the 'alive' bit may change as we approach Christmas! Grr! lol)
Seriously though, when I first became pregnant, all those years ago, I was certain that I would quit. Having this baby was my entire reason for being; surely quitting the ciggies was going to be an automatic and easy thing...?
Errr... no, it wasn't. I am ashamed to say that if anything, I actually smoked MORE while pregnant!
Ironically enough, though, on a visit to my midwife, she checked my blood pressure before I had a cigarette, then checked it again afterwards. She concluded that it would actually probably be quite dangerous for me to attempt to quit my heavy smoking habit during pregnancy, since the 'shock' to my system could bring on all sorts of problems, including with my blood pressure. (It had, ironically enough, gone DOWN after I had the cigarette! lol)
On all my subsequent pregnancies, I continued to smoke - this was before vaping hit the scene - and each time I had large, healthy babies. The last is asthmatic, but then so is my mother and his sire, so I imagine that has more to do with his genes than with my smoking, since none of the others is.
Ultimately, any pregnant woman must listen to her body and make her own decisions for herself. Personally, I chose to keep smoking; now that vaping is available, and I have made the switch to using electronic cigarettes, which give me an experience of what smoking was always SUPPOSED to be like, if I were to be pregnant now (which will NOT be happening! I've drawn a very firm line at 4, thank you very much!
) I would continue to vape, just as I continued to smoke.
On balance, I'm not convinced that I would have attempted to switch from smoking to vaping during a pregnancy, due to the multiple unknowns... 'better the devil you know', and all that... but immediately afterwards, definitely - even with breast feeding.
BUT, I have to return... in rather nice cyclical fashion
... to the fact that I am NOT a medical professional, and can't give any useful advice at all!
Happy vaping, to those who can and/or choose to...

The real question is whether you should toke on an e-cig during the conception....
Don't agree Dave. The main question to me is which is the lesser of two evils if the lady is going to smoke anyway.
