I found out Thursday that I need surgery, they offered me any Monday including tomorrow (Monday) and I need a general anaesthetic. I will probably go in on Jan 31st

Has any other vaper had a GA? I won't see the anaesthetist until the morning of the op, wondering if I should not vape for so long before hand as part of the process is to gas me and I wonder if PG or VG in my lungs might get in the way?

I know it's a question for the hospital but was wondering if anybody can share anecdotal experiences? Don't want to suffer anaesthesia awareness for a few puffs so I might lay off anyway for a few days before hand.

I to would be interested to know the answer to this one Frog. Posted Image

Some years back I had to go into hospital for an emergency op and was duly visited by the anaesthetist with a view to giving me a GA but when he found out that I smoked he refused to do it this way and I ended up with an epidural which was not a brilliant experience.

It would be very interesting to know if there is a different attitude to a vaper.
Be nice to your kids they'll choose your nursing home.

I buy from anyone who sells good products at the right price, even quit kit vendors.

Hi Frog,
I have had GA on two occasions in the past 12 months and both times I had a toke about an hour before being given general anaesthetic and came through it wihtout any problems.
I was vaping PG liquids at the time and did not even think to tell any of the medics that I was a vaper just told them I had'nt smoked for two years.
Hope this helps

could you phone the clinic and check with them? I'd certainly be happier mentioning it and as for smoking, I've had several anaesthetics during my time as a smoker, not the best but they didn't NOT do it because I smoked :talktohand:

Agreed, for Frogs own peace of mind he should mention it to the Medical staff.
Like you Gopher I have had GA when I was smoking and it was not a pleasant experience coming round from the anaesthetic hacking and all .
I think someones age and how long they have smoked is the deciding factor as to whether GA is given or not.

Yeah the surgeon's PA is calling me tomorrow to firm up a date for the procedure so I will ask her who I should talk to about it.

Let us know how you get on Andy,
I'm sure it will be ok to vape, the only problem is that the medical people in general do not know enough about the effects of vaping , like ourselves in some respects I suppose!

Down here they send out a stop smoking leaflet whenever you are booked in for any surgical procedure - whether you are having a GA or a local anaesthetic. I was under the impression that this was due to the detrimental effect smoking has on the healing/recovery process. They don't specify if this is due to the nicotine - perhaps due to it's effects on the circulatory system? Definitely worth checking :baffled: .

Oh dear, some sleepless nights ahead.. get vaping, stop worrying petal...

When I was last in the Hospital, I found I was the only person who had ANY knowledge of them at all, and soon had a few folk gathering round wanting to hear about them, which of course was good, as I was delighted to give them a demonstration.. haha

Now I can just see you, Anaesthetist waiting, while you demonstrate...lol

Seriously, I hope it all goes well and you are back on top form soon.

Thank you Cat. No worries at the moment but there no doubt will be as it gets closer.

I got told to keep using, and my paperwork shows I stopped smoking over 2 years ago :)

Well I am in my room at the hospital sucking on my Revolution :-)

The anaesthetist said it is 'neither here nor there' that I vape, and he said after the procedure that I sailed through it. Life is grand as a vaper...

Thanks guys. I am back home now. I had to chuckle when the nurse taking my BP was needing a ciggy so bad and I was just enjoying my vaping

For anybody tracking what hospitals are doing, I had my op at BMI The Harbour Hospital. The Revolution was just perfect as you say Cat, although I did have more PV stuff in my bag than anything else just in case!

So glad to hear that this is all behind you... and that the vaping worked so well for you, too!

Take care, and hope you feel fully back to normal soon. :)

Oh crap I should have got a photo! One when I walked into theatre vaping away! That might have raised some eyebrows I guess. I only vapid in my room, didn't think to ask if I could toke on the slab

Thank you all for your kind words, it's truly touching. For those wondering, I had an abscess on my spine, now I get two weeks off work and all I can see are 'add to cart' buttons everywhere I look.....
