I've just created one of those banners on my signature where it tells you the money you save and cigs you never smoked etc.

I've just added up all my invoices.

Note: I've been vaping a month, I've saved around £40-£45 on fags/rizlas etc but my e-cig total is a whopping £125.

I know start out costs are to be considered but bloody 'ell, didn't realise I'd spent this much.... (ebay-shops-online etc)

£37.5 Tornado Kit
£8 Oldport 10ml

£3.4 rl virginia 5ml
£3.4 rl marlboro 5ml

just interested what other people's finances are like with regards to e-cigs.

I used to smoke 60 a day, every day. At current prices, thats £22 a day. Over a week, it's £154 - £308 for a fortnight.

For £308 you could get:

A GGTS with a UFS - £180
two AW 18650IMRs and a charger - £20
500ml of RY4 from Vapourworld.co.uk - £80
which leaves £28 for a pack of five LR510s

That'll last me three months, with maybe a few quid here and there for atties if I feel the need (Cisco 2 Ohm 510s are the way forward)

So, massively cheaper, yes.

E-cigs are not "quit smoking" devices - they are an alternative way to smoke, but with a much reduced risk profile. Believe this - it's true. E-cig users are NOT quitters.

I vote for less (just) lol

Been vaping 16 months, and spent approx £1500.

So about £90 a month. Used to spend £120 a month on fags.

but like most addicts, I've enough kit to last 6 months without spending anymore. but I will spend more. Like most addicts.

A bit of self discipline will help if you are looking to save money. Try to find something that works and stick to it. I've had a recent spike in spending since starting reading forums again - as it get's tempting to buy new stuff - but for a long time I was spending next to nothing - buying juice and atty's from China every few months. Overall after 2 1/2 years I think I'm quite a bit up though. I smoked rollies, about 75-100g a week (legal not knockoff tobacco). Buying in bulk or during sales tends to be cheaper, e.g. I bought 300ml of 36mg unflavoured from China last month for less than £30. Thats a good few months of vaping for me.

Ah Maff, there lies the rub.

Yes, in theory it is possible to save a fortune but all too often that's not the way it works out.

For those who buy a vaporiser that does precisely what they want and quickly find a liquid they like and can happily vape it all day, then all is well because batteries, atomisers and liquid will probably cost less than their former expenditure on cigarettes. However the danger lies in the whole thing turning into a hobby, or even worse an obsession, and that way bankruptcy lies.

So stop reading forums lest you be tempted to flash the cash on stuff you really don't need and quite often doesn't work.

Oh, and I see that you have started to mix your own liquids. Now there's a slippery slope. Not only can your expenditure soar to an alarming level in the search for the perfect combination of flavours for particular times of the day, but also you will have to fork out for a second fridge to store the hundreds of bottles of flavours you will accrue.

To the best of my knowledge, a self-help group along the lines of Alcoholics Anonymous, Gamblers Anonymous and the like doesn't exist for vapers, so you're going to have to be strong.

I agree.

With me it was more about trying flavours, ruining atties and cartos and buying things like measuring kits. I used to spend apprax £150 per month on cigarettes. I seem to average around £40 per month at the moment on vaping. However, as a previous poster said..I actually have enough juice and flavours now to last me at least three months easy.
I am getting used to knowing what I like and how I like it, and I have also learned what kind of atty and carto I like. So I am looking to see an average spend of around £25 per month by June since I know the vendors and what their own good buys are. I am thinking of treating myself to a Boge Leo though......see...it's started already!! :smoke2:

What he said! So far have been vaping less than 2 months... have spent, well... more than I should! Don't forget that for some this is an alternative to smoking, for others this is just as much a hobby (or an obsession as my wife calls it)... either way it's an addiction of some form. Is that good or bad? Well you can only decide that for yourself. My health is already improving, so to quote the Mastercard advert... priceless!

oh dear what have I got myself in to???!

I too smoked legal (Drum) rollies only about 35g per week so about £9 I think.

Strange I never really kept track of it while being a smoker...

I've just tweaked some bad juice mixes with my vg etc, much better now got at the very least 50ml @ 18-28mg. I'll try to make it a few more weeks on what I have to buy some high nic juice and "break even" at some point.

I think it's important to be aware of how much we spend on e-cigs, because I'm always telling people "it's so much cheaper than proper fags". so far, not true, but in time it will be.

If I had friends who did this (no one I know does it, yet) then trying flavours etc would be easier and cheaper.

:throwball:

hifistud DAVE; how the hell did you afford 60 a day?! even @ £5 a pack that's £105... how did you afford that?? no wonder you love e-cigs. You spend more on fags in one morning-afternoon than I did for an entire week! lol gasp

i reckon i am spending in a week about the same as i used to spend in 2 days now that i have settled into what i like.
i have enough spares and juices etc to keep me going for quite a few months.
it took a little while to find what i like and now i allow myself a 'treat' of something new every few weeks whereas, at first, i was spending a lot more than ciggies 'treating myself' sometimes every day!
self discipline is vital as there is so much choice and variety.

my latest treat is the ce2 5 clearomisers which arrived yesterday, well worth the 7 quid i spent on them whilst ordering my weekly juice stock (i now use the other juices i have to help friends establish their favourite flavours, oh and i pay my sons babysitter with juices for the titan that i bought her so that saves me a fortune too!).

i used to smoke at least 20 a day often 30 and sometimes more (especially when out and/or drinking).

to make things go that bit further i have plain VG which i dilute my juices, which i always buy as strong as i can get, a bit with to suit my own personal tastes, it is significant on the amount i spend on juice and helps to to attain a balance between flavour and vapour.

I have a record of of all my purchases since I started vaping in Feb 2009 - its a very long list and works out at well over 100 quid a month... BUT I would have spent over 7000 quid on cigs over the same period - go figure (over 4000 quid saved)

Edited to add - I also have probably two years of "stock" in hand

I've spent quite a bit of money since starting last May. As a smoker I spent £27 per week on 2 packs Golden Virginia (50gm), 10 packet of rizla's and then theres the extras per month like Gas for the lighter and the occasional lighter replacement. My average was around £114 per month.

As a vaper, or e-smoker, I spent about the same per month finding the right equipment and developing juice recipes for myself.

Now of course I spend a hell of a lot less as I've found the best places for my suplies and buying in bulk saves me money too.

Everyone starting out as a vaper, or e-smoker will spend a little more than they bargained for at first, but after a while will settle down, that is unless they get the dreaded "must buy everything" bug.

I have to agree with nearly everyone. Its the must have that bug that saps youre bank balance. I am one of those people because Im a geek and I need to try everything. If you find one thing you like then your sorted.I worked it out like this for a year. These are appoxomates because I canr be arsed to do the full math :D

I vape 5 ml a day so that's 1825ml a year (Y)
atties last me about a fortnight so that 26 atties (P) a year

1 x Ego................£30
2 x Batts..............£26
Y x Juice............. £1050
26 x Atties.............£102
----------
£1208
----------

Thats from one of the most Expensive vendors around. If you go to china or like me hunt around then you will cut this by nearly a third. I will not be telling you what vendors I use. Google is your friend.

For example this is my price list

1 x Ego..................£35
1 x batt..................£7
Y x Juice................£400
26 x Atties...............£60
-----------
£502
-----------

So there we go. £502 a year for me. I was a on 2 pouches a week and the rizler and lighters and gas and filters so about £110 a month or 1320 a year. The math is simple IF you can keep yourself from getting all those new shineys.

Jez

Initially I spent a lot because it take a bit of time and money to know what your going to be happy with so its trial and error.

Now I am definitely saving and have enough hardware and juice to last for a year. Posted Image

But, what the heck, you cannot put a price on your health. Posted Image
