The Food and Drug Administration said Monday it plans to regulate smokeless electronic cigarettes as tobacco products and won't try to regulate them under stricter rules for drug-delivery devices.

The federal agency said in a letter to stakeholders Monday that it intends to propose rule changes to treat e-cigarettes the same traditional cigarettes and other tobacco products.

This might not be great news for Europe. The EU is currently considering bringing ecigs into the Tobacco Products Directive which can ban them and/or create very difficult market conditions.

I buy from anyone who sells good products at the right price, even quit kit vendors.

They will Kenny.

Our Yank friends will be celebrating tonight, this is what they've been fighting for. I hate to piss on the parade but I think their troubles are just starting, tobacco control are buggers.

I agree, it's the least bad of the two options the Yanks had to go with, but in European and UK terms it's pretty awful as FDA actions often carry over to us. It's a shame the Yanks didn't or couldn't follow the path of regulation which avoided both tobacco and drug implications.

I tried to talk with them about commercial market regulation Tyke but I think minds were closed very early on.

Worth a try. We can only hope that there's a atypical response to an FDA decision in the UK.

Just as an aside..I was watching ITV breakfast telly"Daybreak" this morning, the show with that big gormless twat and Adrian Chiles as well, and there was a woman from Liverpool who had been buying these tablets which helped her body produce the chemical that makes us tan easily.

She explained that for her it was really difficult to tan and these pills help the process. No real side effects...early nausea but no more. She said you can also buy a nasal spray version.

The person invited to argue against this was a woman from the regulation sector who explained that these pills had not been tested and approved by NICE or whoever, and ....and here's the point....and "therefore they were dangerous"
The Liverpool woman was asked by Adrian Lump how long she had been taking the pills and she said 2 years. She said she felt fine.

The last word was given to the other woman who, realising that this pretty looking, healthy looking liverpudlian was quite happy with the choices she made, then made the killer statement:

"these drugs aren't regulated and therefore dangerous. Often people buy these things without realising that the proceeds go to gangs...and terrorists"...!!!!! Yes, you heard it right.

Even Adrian Chiles was unable to resist saying to the liverpudlian..."be careful and stop supporting terrorists".

An amusing start to the day, but just goes to show the lengths Government and vested interests will go to to protect their profits.

I wouldn't be surpised if e-cig users weren't accused of supporting Gaddafi, or us all being in some paedophile ring grooming kids with sweety-flavoured vapes!!!

TV and newz is all pushing some kind of message.. the thing that amazes me is how they get away with it.. the libya thing is a good example..

all pre planned all based on total lies.. all f-cking scary.. it has reached the point where they can say and do pretty much as they like..

what really scares me is the simple fact the viewing audience swallows it all hook line and sinker..

but back on the real topic.. i really do think its a big mistake to blame it all on money and vested interests..

the real blame lies on the gullible fools who let them get away with it.. its a foxes job to eat chickens.. when the average member of the public seems to have the brain power of a chicken the fox is gonna do his job.. gobble up the f-cking chickens..

the lady who dosnt like the sun tan drugs isnt isnt working for the fox.. she really is trying to protect a pretty stupid chicken.. one who has become so brainwashed by the TV (tool of the fox) that she thinks its okay to take drugs to improve her silly sun tan..

sorry AV but i think you need to have a rethink on this one.. the so called bad guy (women) is simply trying to protect some pretty stupid chickens..

they are all pushing a message.. you are siding with wrong one in this case..

now does the chicken need protected from the fox.. sadly no matter how much the idea of "freedom" sounds desirable.. often it just provides a better meal for the fox.. so i would say it does.. one day chickens may aquire useful brains but so far the concept aint looking likely.. :)

That's a fairly healthy alternative viewpoint, and I will reflect carefully. In terms of the concepts "Democracy" and "Freedom Of Choice" and "Equality" I pretty much agree with all you say above. I just wonder what we'll all say when a similar type of person comes on Daybreak to warn everyone that using e-cigs is bad because liquid nicotine is unregulated and dangerous and is secretly used to finance people trafficking from China.....and I think you might be just a little too compassionate and generous to the woman who opposed the sun tan drug....she may well have been just trying to save a poor soul from damaging herself, but then again....:)

...And let's not forget that it pays for the Fox and it's minions to ensure that the education system is maintained at a sub-standard level in order to ensure that the chickens remain dumb and stupid...:sinister:

Remember it's only the nicotine that can come under Tobacco Controls as it is made from tobacco. All the other ingredients and parts of an e-cig (battery, atomiser, PG, VG, flavouring) are nothing to do with tobacco. Are they going to open every parcel coming from China, considering the volume of these imports?

Hi everyone,

Electronic cigarettes are the best alternate to real cigarettes as they contain very little amount of tobacco and they are eco-friendly as they are smoke-less and do not bother other people. So, they must be categorized under non-nicotine or tobacco free products.
