Oh no, a child could drink it! Therefore it must be banned for everyone. Never mind the bleach, turps, and countless other freely available chemicals that will kill a child if it's consumed. That is seriously the best they can come up with? Still, I find it shocking that some vendors (yes including UK ones) are still sending out product in plain non-childproof bottles.

Australia was one of the most aggressive countries in banning the sale of nicotine in early 2009 IIRC. But personal imports have continued to be allowed. I'm not sure of the details, but it sounds like this effectively shuts down the personal import route for residents of Queensland.

BTW always forget this forum has a news section, not sure if this sort of thing is better there or what.

Sheesh, now there's a well-researched, well-balanced news report.

Some nice product placement though - it would be interesting to learn of the positive or negative effect of that report on the sales of the eliquid vendors so prominently displayed.

As an aside from someone who lived in Australia for 12 years from late childhood to early adulthood, Queensland is not representative of Australia as a whole and has gone down in Australian history for banning Noddy books (the 'questionable' relationship between Noddy and Big Ears could corrupt innocent little minds and encourage 'deviant' behaviour), and for the Queensland state government decreeing that the women dancers in a traditionally clothed African dancing troupe that had been invited to perform in some highly reputable arts venues could only appear on stage if they wore bras. Meanwhile citizens of all ages were free to smoke, get paralytically drunk on their alcoholic liquid of choice and punch the hell out of each other.

Australia is one of the worst nanny states in the world, it's drug laws for example are absolutely draconian. Many substances that are seen in the rest of the world as little more than food supplements are banned there as drugs.

This saddens, but doesn't surprise me. Are they going to ban tobacco? Err no, but they are going to try and fine you $8000 for possession of something that will definitely cut the damage you are causing yourself as a result of becoming addicted to the perfectly legal (and by extension of this, safe?) tobacco.

And could possibly save countless thousands of Australian lives. Prohibitionists really get on my tits.
