Numbers are used to refer to a whole bunch of things ecig related, and it can get a bit complicated, so here's a guide to the main numbers you may see.... and I guarantee I'll have missed loads, so think of it as a work in progress :)

Atomisers

4081 - also 103 - super mini (cigarette sized) atomiser - apparently good for 6v vaping

306 - a super mini with the same thread as the 510. Small carts, but quite good on performance (apparently, I haven't tried one personally)
m201 - The m series equivalent of the 801/penstyle (and that's all I know about it :( )

m301 - Similar in size and appearance to the 510 (the carts are virtually identical, but none of the bits are interchangeable) but with a slight edge in flavour.

m401 - also 402 and 403 and Evo - a super mini, famed for small carts, and good flavour

m601 - Very similar in size and appearance to the 4081 but perfomance identical to the 601 (none of the bits are interchangeable)

510 - also titan, dura and found on the tornado - falls somewhere between super mini and mini size. Known for great vapour and throat hit, but poor flavour.

801 - also 4072, BE112, Janty/Joye 302 and 304 - pen style (ie huge ). Known for huge carts, really good flavour, poor throat hit, and light draw.

8084 - also 084 - a super super mini, good for its size, but the smallest carts known to man

kr 808D - also 808, cartomisers - a combined throw away atomiser and cartridge - opinions vary, but great for flavour and throat hit, not so good for vapour. Work out to be fairly expensive :(

901 - also 4075 - generally recognised as the best balance of flavour, throat hit and vapour. It where most people start, and quite a few stay :)

905 - A slightly LR version of the 901, giving it a more 510 like vapour and through hit, without losing too much flavour.

DSE601 - An e-pipe with the battery compartment in the bowl, and an integrated atomiser. Interesting, but the lifespan of the atomiser is a real problem :(

Batteries

All of the above have at least one type of battery associated with them, but I'm sure you can figure them out :)

Battery sizes are (theoretically, and approximately) diameter and height, so a 10440 is 10mm across, and 44.0mm high.

10440 - 'AAA' size - the smallest single mod battery, about 500mAh making it big compared with a standard ecig battery, small compared with everything else

14500 - 'AA' size - about 800mAh, so mid sized.

16340 - also CR123 800 - 1000 mAh - shorter but fatter than the 14500, these are found in the MK1 SD

18350 - 1000 - 1200 mAh - similar to the 16340, but a bit bigger, found in the mk2 SD, the indulgence and the 601 pipe.

18650 - 2000 - 3000mAh - about the biggest battery you will find in a mod. More than a days worth of vaping.

Does anyone know......

I realise the capacity figures on li-ion batteries tend to be somewhat optimistic but, that aside, do they relate to the absolute capacity or the available capacity? In other words, do the advertised figures discount or include the unusable charge that remains once the protection circuit kicks in when the minimum allowed voltage is reached?

They should be (in theory) the available capacity. Of course, if they are using the absolute it would explain the discrepancy that there often is :geek:

I would guess that the figures given for battary capacity are the best possible case under perfect laboaratory conditions. Sometimes the figures seem to be rather generously rounded up. Ecigs often drain the battery far faster than manufacturers recommendations making them lose capacity relatively quickly.
