I drank water too quickly, inhaled it and could not cough it out.

Vaping maybe stopping certain functions of our lungs... our lungs are supposed to cough water out, but at least for me that function has completely gone.

I'm not sure if I should see a doctor or something...:bulgy-eyes:

See a doctor if you're worried or feel unwell, that's what they are there for.

I haven't heard of this before...

How do you feel today?

Today I am OK - my lungs must have absorbed it - still it is worrying... it means I can't dive anymore. :(

Does anybody else have their cough suppressed after inhaling water? This is a recent thing for me, usually I cough like mad.

Did this happen just the once? I would have thought anyone would have difficulty in getting rid of water in the lungs

depending on the amount of water
depending on the situation
depending on how often this happens

I'm not advocating that you go through a trial process and chart it out, but I would see your GP for your personal problems and avoid arriving at conclusions too early......

Oh. If I don't know what is causing it, then I'll have to see a doctor.
It just washes around in my lungs as I choke - it happened twice (I don't inhale water too often)

1st time - Free dived in a shallow area - inhaled water as I went down and when I got up I could not catch air and I was gurgling - trying to cough (couldn't).

2nd time - Was really thirsty grabbed a 5litre bottle of water and downed it drank a lot very quickly - in the process I got some water in my lungs - I was in pain and could not cough.

OMG - 5 litres! Is that possible in one go?

That's about 10 pints.. I'm not surprised you nearly drowned!

But yes, consulting a doctor is a good idea...

You could potentially die from drinking 5 litres in one go.

If the sensation and ability to cough it up is gone, def see a doc ASAP, fluid sat in the lungs is pneumonia or oedema and needs urgent medical attention

Definitely see a doctor... I'm also concerned that you didn't mention your gag reflex which would have been the first thing that would trigger your cough to get everything out... if this doesn't happen then there could be something else amiss as there are a number of conditions that can supress it, that's if it hasn't be supressed naturally anyway (some people simply don't have the reflex)... but yes, you should never ignore water in the lungs, no matter how small the quantity.

I think I may have used the wrong word - I didn't drink the whole thing - I just drank a lot in a very short space of time (not 5 litres... maybe a bit more than a quater of a litre) which lead to some of the water going down the wrong pipe.

Not sure if I had a gag reflex then - I was a bit panicy over the fact that there was water swirling around in my lungs.

I just put my finger in my mouth to test my gag reflex and it is taking long to kick in - like 8 to 9 seconds.

I think I'll call my gp tomorrow morning, just to be on the safe side, but just to clarify I did not drink or inhale 5 litres of water so it is not that serious.

I have phlegm in my wind pipe and tightness in my throat... but thats it

As a rubbish swimmer who adores being in the sea I often inhale water, I have quite a low gag reflex (don't start!) and this has happened to me, it's quite scary but my doc tested and assured all was ok.

I smoked then btw and as I've had chronic bronchitis and pneumonia in my past I notice much improved lung function with vaping. No rasping wheeze either.
