I have noticed every now and again when vaping I feel what I can only describe as "slightly chesty", a quick cough clears it and everything is fine again. I havnt done it today but if I remember rightly it does bring up a slight amount of flem when coughing to clear my chest
I have been off the roleys for 22 days now and I used to have the same thing with those, could this still be caused by smoke damage in my body and hopefully will clear with time or is vaping doing something to my body in the same way as smoking used to and needs clearing with a single quick cough now and again?
Im not worried about it as such just curious what causes it?

It sounds to me like the normal "cleaning" process the body goes through when you stop smoking. Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor though!

Robb, you will experience some coughing with flem for a while. Its just the lungs clearing out toxins which is good.

Congratulations on the 22 days! I had a lot of that kind of thing for a month or so I'm afraid but it did go away. The compensation was that the cough I had all last Winter disappeared almost immediately which was brilliant.Nowadays a strong menthol makes my nose run but I think its for different reasons!

I wonder if there is an element of allergy to PG or flavour or it could be that PG is drying your throat. I guess you could try a process of elimination - see if more water works or seeing if unflavoured PG has the same effect as unflavoured VG and, if so, that would make it something in the flavours.
Hope it goes away, whatever it is!

Well i did suffer with a sore throat for the first 2 weeks, but ive found this seems very common, perhaps its just my body getting used to pg?

I get VERY chesty with PG, more wheezy actually.
It's a lot of chest to wheeze so very noticeable. ;-)
This is more likely to be 22 days of no tar, your body will be late spring cleaning.
However, as with all advice, a check with your GP is always advisable when coughing.

Now you mention it does make me slightly wheezy if i breath in really deeply, but a single cough clears it. I had the same thing when i smoked.
Hope its not pg as ive just bought a load of pg based nicotine from the us and most of the concentrates i like only seen to be pg based.

Well if it does turn out to be PG, I've seen a few postings from folk who've gone VG but with PG-based concentrates and been fine because its been a question of degree. Of course you might be unlucky but, if worst comes to worst, at least there is the trade board.
Good luck!

Robb, I'm very allergic to PG. If I use 100% then I get very itchy and find my breathing difficult.
there are no VG concentrates.
I use 80/20 mixes. Which are ok for me.

Ok so in theory vaping "shouldnt" make me wheezy or chesty, ill give it a few months if it persists or gets worse i will look at increasing the ratio of vg in my mixes and see if it makes any difference for me.

Well at the moment im mixing around 30% pg based nicotine, 50% vg and 20% pg based flavour so like 50/50 vg and pg.
So all i would need to change would be use vg nicotine and not pg? Was just warned vg nicotine is a bit more tricky than pg?

Do you mean that its tricky to mix or tricky to get, Robb? I have Platinum Ice nicotine base liquids in PG, VG and PEG400 and they all mix equally well.

I just read that nicotine does not dilute as well into VG as it does PG which can cause it to separate? There was a fear of a separating and me pouring very high levels of nicotine into a mix?

I've not heard that one but I must admit, I always shake my bottles before opening them anyway.

Sounds wise, If I find I do have an allergy to PG I will have to sell this stuff and replace it with VG, hopefully shaking is enough to keep the nicotine mixed with the VG. Shaking bottles before filling up my cartos and maxing mixes is probably a very good habit to get into anyway.
Again thanks for the help everyone I will keep the topic updated as it may be helpful for others in the future

I went through probably about 6 weeks of coughing up phlegm/sputum after switching over. And then it just stopped, and hasn't returned since. In my case it was nothing to do with PG and entirely to do with the effects of years of smoking filterless rollies. If you've ever tried blowing cigarette smoke through a tissue (yields a thick brown tarry liquid) that is what you've been inhaling for years. The advice to consult a doctor if it continues is good, depending on what it is that you cough up, it could be indicative of a chest infection that may need treatment with anti biotics.
