The RTA (rebuildable tank attie) prototype is working very nicely, so it's time to decide on the materials to use in it's construction.
The end caps will be black Delrin, because it works well in this design, but the tubing can be made from several different materials. Because the plastic tubing has a wall thickness of 2mm, while the metal tube is 1.5m, the tubes won't be interchangeable - you won't be able to fit a metal tube to an attie originally built for a plastic tube, and vice-versa.

Please vote for the tube material that you would prefer - you can select more than one answer to each question. Once the votes are in, I can finalise the design, and make the necessary jigs.

I'm also considering offering a metal tube for the RDA (dripping attie). The titanium option will be dependent on actually being able to drill the air inlet hole. The Ti tubes are actually "flesh tunnels", and £5 is the cheapest that I can find them anywhere. They are slightly shorter than the ideal, so the caps will be slightly shorter to fit. Again, you won't be able to fit a Ti tube to a plastic or ally tube attie, but you will be able to fit an ally tube to a Ti attie.

I'd definitely skip the Acrylic. Polycarb is so much stronger, and not that much more expensive. I like the look of polished aluminum, but only if it can be anodized. Otherwise I'd want to pop the extra bucks for Ti.

That RDA look sweet. I will definatly be buying one of these when you have the first batch ready.

I think a clear poly tank would be best as I like to see how much juice I have left. Also I'd prefer a Ti atty housing unless the ally can be anodised to order.

Just a couple of questions:

Will these have a 510 fitting?

What capacity is the tank? From the pics it looks around 2-2.5 ml.

what are the overall dimensions for the titanium version of the tank atty? I don't care much about the length but I'm looking to keep the width to 18mm OD or smaller

thanks

510 fittings, as that's all I can test.
Prototype RTA holds 2.4ml.
RTA is 20mm diameter - I can't fit everything inside a tube smaller than that.

Thanks Clockworks. Put my name down for one. Any idea on price and when they'll be ready?

Added you both to the list.

Until I've made the necessary jigs, and built the first few, I can't really set a price. It depends on how long they take to build.
I'll leave the poll running for a few days, then decide which options to build. I'll make a small batch, and send them out for field testing. The prototype works well for me, but I need to make sure that others like it, too. I want this to be as close to perfect as possible.

The Ti option is getting more votes than I expected. I'd love to find a cheaper source for these 20mm Ti flesh tunnels. Anyone know of a source, probably direct from China?

I'm leaning towards using metal tubes for the atomising chamber. It's harder to work with, but it's more durable, and gives a little more room inside. A small number of juice flavours attack acrylic and polycarbonate, causing cracking - banana and cinnamon being the worst offenders

Added to the list!

I think that the RTA vapes as well, if not better, than the RDA.

i believe it's illegal to have any foodstuffs in direct contact with aluminimum, as its a known contaminate.....plastic lining of beer barrels etc is standard practice. e-liquid can be deemed a food product as it's absorbed into the body by vaping....not trying to stir the pot here, but anybody that uses aluminimum to hold juice prior to vaping it, could be stirring up a heap of trouble for theirselves in the future.
and I will also add justincase is a total nut case IMO who will stomp over whoever posts here

The question of the safety of aluminium vaping accessories keeps coming up. In fact, I raised it myself a few weeks ago. The consensus seems to be that there may be a risk, but nobody really knows, and anodised ally is safer, or even safe.
That's why I'm offering the options. If someone doesn't want to risk aluminium (despite it being used in other mods like the Bulli), then choose something else.

I'm testing a stainless steel tube to see if the inside seam (it's actually a very small step - around 0.15mm) causes any problems. It looks like the o-ring will cope with the irregularity. I've filled the test "tank" with isopropyl to check for leaks.
If the stainless works OK, I'll probably use it instead of plain aluminium. I'll make them in a brushed finish, but it'll be easy for anyone who wants a polished finish to achieve that in 30 minutes with some fine wet-or-dry paper, metal polish, and a bit of elbow grease.

The 20mm polycarbonate tubing should arrive today, so I'll be using that, rather than acrylic.

You're right, Kev - clear top and bottom tubes is the easiest to build, and you can see exactly what's going on inside, which makes it easier to use.
