what is the score with airports? Gatwick in particular, can you vape in the building once you've checked in? What about customs and e-liguid, do the little bottles (about 20ml) have to go in a bag or can they stay in their eGo cases? What about the bottle in my revolution V2.1? Flying to Turkey, anyone know what its like over there for the vapes?

I know it's illegal in turkey to import or use e-cigs, however, I know of someone else who went there recently and were fine as long as they were discreet about it. I'm sure someone else will come along and let you know about the airport/customs.

Airport - you theoretically can vape anywhere you want and some people do, but I've never done it personally. Anything containing visible liquid must go in your liquids bag or you risk having it confiscated.
Also, be careful with boge cartomisers - apparently they look like bullets on the x-ray so if you have any with you show the security person before putting your stuff through x-ray or expect questions and a full swab test of your bag afterwards (I got caught out with them at Manchester Airport: once I showed them what they were they were fine)

Are you sure that's right about Turkey? This is beginning to sound a pain in the arse. If it is illegal in Turkey I risk them being confiscated there which I don't want. May have to go onto analogues for the 10 days or so.

Yes, absolutely sure but like I said someone went there recently on hols and didn't have a problem but they were fairly discreet about it. I'm not much of a traveller but maybe it's different if you're just a tourist for a short time. Don't take any expensive mods just in case.

I think this thread is the one Cyberpixie is thinking about so I hope it puts your mind at rest. There was a suspension of imports and sales of imports a while back per this article - the main Dekang rep in Turkey said he wasn't affected.

I think it does not matter which country you go to and whether in airports or other public buildings you need to be discreet (stealth vape )

If you go into any public building anywhere in UK or abroad and have vapour billowing round your ears then I'm afraid you have to accept the consequences as no matter what you say it looks like you are smoking.

I don't agree with Phil that you can vape anywhere you want in an airport unless there is no vapour and no one is aware.

On a brighter note, have been to Turkey this year and vaped but not in public buildings without any problems.

Fair point Phil and I agree that in theory you can but in practice it only needs one smoker or jobsworth to report you and at worst a security guard to man handle you out.

my thinking on this is just be sensible....

We dont want to give the impression that us vapers and just shoving it in peoples faces lol......... and a lot of folks wont know what it is and assume its smoking in some form.
I try to sit roughly where the smoking areas are, though not actually right next to them, just close enough that im in the general area (and not outside if its raining lol).

I would say that i also dont vape in pubs or whatever as i dont want to get into any arguments, but im happy to join the smokers and try and convert them

I know that there is no real need for me to do this but im just being curteous to non smokers/vapers who might imagine that what im doing somehow affects them....... once they ask me about it then i tell them, might even give them a little demonstration, but not be too pushy about it.

In a few years when they are more common (or possibly banned lol, depending on how that all works out) then i will be more open about it, but for now im happy just wandering along the street having the odd vape and using it at home, i dont feel th eneed to vape when im out and about really anyway, though i had a great time on holiday in the beer garden and sitting around in the sun just chilling and vaping

thanks for the replies. I have decided to leave my main pv at home, a boge revolution V2.1 and just take my 2 eGo 900mAh batteries and charging lead and 3 or 4 cartomisers and driptip in the eGo case and put three 5ml bottles of juice in with all my wife's stuff in a clear plastic bag. Hopefully Turkish customs won't take them off me as they will be in my hand luggage with my camera and stuff. I am not going to upset anyone by vaping on the plane or in the airport, if I need a fix I shall just go to the loo and have a couple of drags there. It does say that it is illegal to import or sell them but as far as I can see there is not a ban on them and I certainly will not be showing off with them.

just had another thought!! I may just take the 2 batteries with cartomisers attached and put them in my hand luggage, one in the camera case and one in with a couple of pens in another compartment so that they are not all in the eGo case. That way they may not draw so much attention from the xray machine but I don't really want to be caught up in subterfuge and would much rather be open and honest (although not if they are going to confiscate them!!) so, altogether in the eGo case or secreted around my hand luggage?

I really don't think you will have a problem David but think its best not to try and hide them as the security staff probably know what they are anyway.

Put them in your hand baggage and if anyone asks you what they are just be honest, its the best policy really IMO.

I have put eGos through x-ray machines in many places and no one has ever asked what they were. I throw juice, spare atties and charger into my suitcase and just carry an eGo and spare battery loose in my hand luggage. When going through customs in countries with regimes you don't want to mess with, I may disassemble it and just carry the bare batteries in my hand luggage and the rest in my suitcase and again have had no problems, though I wouldn't put Turkey in this category. I think Kenny's right. that there shouldn't be a problem.

I vapid in Manchester airport, as I sent them an email asking them about their policy and they said it was fine. I didn't walk around doing it in front of everyone as I didn't want to have to ill the email out, but at least I had it for my own comfort! As for security, I popped my liquids in the clear bags, and as recommended by the airport staff I also popped my mod in a clear bag and disclosed it to security as a nicotine inhalator, they went the least bit bothered and ushered me through. I had no problems on my trip to egypt, but I am not sure about turkey

went to turkey in august
two egos and 10ml bottle of juice in wifes handbag , ego starter kit in suitcase plus 30ml juice.
got through securtity without any bother (glasgow)
vaped on plane
got through security without any bother (turkey)
vaped on plane

not one person noticed
just chill out , your not going to get locked up if they do notice

just dont forget your £10 note to get into turkey or that
really will be locked up time
