Following full discussion by the mods and admins and due consideration of views expressed by members, (and some very rapid admin work by Jackie) I can announce the following changes to the forum:

Post Edit Limits

The timeout for editing to posts has been increased to 3 days. Anyone abusing or misusing post editing will be put into a (not visible to other members) group with a timeout of 30mins

Mod Maker Sales

Only members of the Mod Makers Group can start threads in the Mod Makers Sales Forum

Use of Classifieds

Anyone (inc Mod Makers and Vendors) can now post in classifieds - anyone using this to sell their products/mods (ie not selling personal items) will be placed a a (not visible to other members) group which bars posting in classifieds

Buying and Selling Section

Some of the forum names in this section have been revised

Chat Links

New links to chat have been set up in line with requests by members

Forum Rules

Revised rules will be published to reflect these changes - Jackie tells me probably tomorrow

The team are discussing some other changes to rules, guidelines and structure - watch this space

I'd like to finish by saying that these changes have the support of the whole team and have been made as being in the best interest of the forum and its members having considered all options.

I'll miss the ability to update "LIVE" info threads beyond three days - for events and classifieds and the like - but I guess the limit is there to protect us from the small bag of bad apples who don't know how to behave - I hope they're feeling proud of themselves now...

Actually, the "naughty group" with a 30min limit is for that, Jaded. Many forums have a post edit limit and the main reason is to ensure "records don't get changed after the event" - in case of disputes, dodgy dealing etc. Once something has become a matter of record it is best less unchanged. We (mods) will of course continue to be willing to edit things if people ask for good reason. If we COULD have different limits for different forums, that would be a different matter of course...

It doesn't mean people who abuse the increased limits get 30 minutes in a "naughty corner" - it means that anyone who abuses the increased limits will be put into a group that limits their ability to edit posts to 30 minutes (i.e. 30 minutes after they've posted a message they will be unable to edit it). This group membership won't be visible to other members so no-one except the poster, mods and admins will know the restriction in place
